Yeah, I turned MV off at work when the beer delivery drivers started showing up. I've still got to maintain my street cred with all the craft brewer nerds, yanno?

Sufjan Stevens doesn't do much for me
yeah, i'll admit he's talented, and there's nothing that is overtly off-putting, but I personally find his albums to be quite dull.
agreed. he's the male equivalent to Joanna Newsom for me.
See, her voice is positively grating to me. Which is a bummer, because the alternately Jim O'Rourke and Steve Albini produced Ys sounds incredible. I would love an instrumental version.
Sufjan is to me much like how the piano teacher described Scarlett Johannsen in The Man Who Wasn't There: She plays the right notes at the right times, but without passion. I listen to Sufjan and am like, "Welp, he wrote and recorded everything himself, and there are some really interesting ideas here, but...this sound like the idea of a cool indie record rather an actually cool indie record."

actually, i agree more with this sentiment. i absolutely hate Joanna Newsom's voice and delivery style. i'm totally fine with Sufjan's.

Yeah, I find the whole Joanna Newsom "twee" thing very grating, and the harp has no place in my CD collection. Never enjoyed Surfjan's stuff and could never understand the hype.

I think categorizing Joanna Newsom as "twee" shows a complete misunderstanding of what she does. I understand people not liking her voice, but "twee" is completely off the mark. Jangly, dusted-petal, whimsical Sarah Records type bands are what I think of when I think of "twee", or something like The Boy Least Likely To, not Newsom's sprawling, ambitious compositions.
