I thought so. The use of the word "honey" is a dead giveaway.

Primus is just a heavy version of The Presidents of the United States of America. That's ok though because I like POTUS

I don't care about Tom Petty but I don't think he's awful, it's just not my thing.

Aside from On the Beach, I feel similarly about Neil Young. Could not care less.

I still think Scott Weiland was a true genius.

Tom Petty was one of the first catalogue journeys I did and still one of my favorites. It’s hard to think of another artist that so successfully balanced rock and pop into a digestible form without coming off as a total cheeseball. It’s not easy being both that catchy and that cool simultaneously.

Also, I really loved Purple and parts of both Songs From the Vatican Gift Shop and Core. Other than that, a few selected songs here and there. Greatness occasionally found him but was largely right on the tip of his tongue.

Don't worry, I banned him. Give him a few days to think about what he's done.

I love pretty much everything he did. Never listened to Velver Revolver or that other band he sang for....but besides that, his solo albums are masterpieces too for me.

And the STP catalogue with him is way up there.

When I was a teenager it was Pearl Jam, Nirvana and STP as the bands I cared about the most, but as time went on STP fell off a bit for me. Nirvana is also not as important to me but they more often find their way back to my rotation.

I was saying to a pal today how gifted he was but to start off with it was purely an EV imitation.

My pal said no other band of the era had such a quick and worthwhile progression by their third album. They went Bowie. That’s true.

It’s taken pj 11 albums to get to this point. And we’re not sure if they’ve succeeded.

The narrative that Weiland was aping Eddie never rang true for me. STP was active and touring since 1989; their commercial intentions were no more or less valid than PJ's. They got pigeonholed differently, and to Scott's credit, I think he made a very conscious decision to turn away from a vocal style that was similar to Ed, and to instead find his own unique thing.

Can’t argue with any of that.

Lucky to see STP in 94 or 95 on Purple. And see Scott with VR

one of the greatest frontmen of our time. No taking it away from him.
The guy was a Star and a joy to watch
