Do you really think Shepherd is a sad-o record? I think it's got some of his happiest, most hopeful lyrics on there. He talks about love and marriage in a way that's full of joy. There's plenty of death and shit, sure, but I think especially on that record it's framed in terms of acceptance and wonder, awe even, at the enormity of it all.

Oh, for sure. The great first discovery listening to his music is his sense of humor and wistfullness.
I am not going to argue any of these points about Molina. About 40% of his songs are about mythical bird creatures who drink human blood. Enough said.
