After listening to the new album a few times it feels like a bit of a regression after The Woods. Almost like they went back into that pre-Woods default mode the NME article refers to.

I've never listened to much Sleater-Kinney (although I do appreciate that'One More Hour' is all sorts of perfect) but this album is awesome.

A few songs on No Cities To Love seem like they could have been all sorts of awesome... but they didnt quiet get there. I was really expecting the songs to then flush out even more live, but theyve been sticking pretty close to the album arrangements. A New Wave seems like it could be a killer jam live.

No Cities To Love has a GREAT Chorus, but the verses are just kinda... there
either way, still glad they came back!

But "Surface Envy" is incredible, one of their best songs ever.

I would agree with that.

I don't know, I've been listening to a lot of SK lately, The Woods, All Hands on the Bad One, The Hot Rock, One Beat. Today I put on No Cities to Love and was totally into it just as much as the four albums I mentioned. It seems to me that some people wanted more of The Woods and are sad they didn't get it.

While I love The Woods, I don't really listen to SK for long ass drawn out guitar solos.

I never really listened to them until the new album came up, but I'm obsessed with them now and for me no cities to love is on par with their best stuff.

yeah, he doesnt get it lol, I didnt want another The Woods, im GLAD they didnt do another the Woods, I love the album/songs/direction they went, BUT, This was the first time they ever recorded songs, that were never played live first, and it kinda shows. Some of these songs seem to get sooooooo close!

Go listen to some of the early, pre-woods, versions of Entertain, and Lets Call It Love, it took a good couple years to really nail down Entertain and turn it into the song it became (which sounds even more amazing live now, the extra Janet intro is awesome live.

I think you may really be onto something here. It's not that the songs are bad or anything, but they're just not quite there yet. For example, I think "Hey Darling" is a killer song, but it doesn't quite have the energy and push it needs to fulfill its full potential. But it's soooooooooo close.

While re-watching Twin Peaks it struck me that the cover of The Woods looks like the scenes in the last two episodes where a red curtain appears in the woods.

Live on Jools Holland: No Cities, Gimme Love, Price Tag

Gimme Love was a cool choice - Corin doesn't quite go for it like she does on tour but a solid performance nonetheless :nice:

'Very exciting news' coming next week from S-K. Based on this image below and the clues they're posting on Facebook it looks like it could be a live album/DVD :li:
