Can songs released as singles in 2021 be considered "best of 2022" if the album came out in 2022?
don't be silly.
That's not an answer
I think you know the answer.
I had such high hopes for you dad
hope is a terrible four-letter word.
true
what 2021/2022 single are you considering?
I'm just thinking in general. 21/22 were just examples. You could ask the same question about any year. Just curious how people think of singles released in one year from an album that comes out the follow year.

The way I keep track of songs and albums I like from any given year is by adding them to playlists. So for a real life example, SZA released the single "Good Days" back in late 2020, so I included it in my list of favorite songs from that year. The song is the lead single for her 2022 album SOS. SOS happens to be a really good album, so I'm including it in my list of 2022 favorites even though the lead single was released in 2020. So I guess the answer to this

is album yes, song no.

Trying to get to some stuff I missed in 2022 before the calendar turned.
Rina Sawayama is so fucking good. Her 2020 record was a soundtrack to my pandemic experience and I didn't realize she'd dropped a new one last year. Just getting to it now and fuck me! What a force.
I've been hunting down and revisiting some old sort of "forgotten" 90's songs. Stuff that I heard on the radio growing up but that hasn't endured.
Fucking Sick & Beautiful by Artificial Joy Club is sooooooo good. That chorus is hooky and satisfying AF! Even with wild and hilarious lyrics like "crusted like a worn out Penthouse" and "Have some mercy and Kevorkian me to sleep" the song just fucking hits! I goddamn love it.

I dig his voice/sound. Even if he isn't a great "singer."
It’s not that I think it’s bad — I don’t. But I have difficulty not picturing Mike Meyers in So I Married An Ax-Murderer doing his coffee house poetry.
