Why is Radiohead abbreviated “RH”? It’s one word.

Can somebody who knows more about music/music theory than I do explain what it is about this (bad) song that sounds so fucking weird? His voice just seems to go up and down in haphazard directions, and the melody seems totally ramshackle and bizarre - like the song's structure is barely holding together. I can't figure out what's going on here.
I'd steeled myself for this to be horrible but it's actually kind of...good?
I really like the melody and the way it snakes around the chords.
It doesn't sound bizarre at all to me, just quite enjoyable (definitely not what I expected).

I’ve been listening to that album after SM came up on RM recently and I realized I hadn’t heard it since I was a preteen. Back then, it was HUGE for me. It’s so weird going back and having all of those songs immediately come flooding back; they’ve all been buried in the back of my mind somewhere all these years. I’d forgotten some of the places it goes, and I have to wonder how much it laid the foundations for a lot of my musical proclivities later on.
This song, for example, doesn’t seem that far from NIN, and listening now I can kinda see the roots of my interest in noisy music:

This sounds more like a soul coughing tune rather than NIN
