The Lemonheads:

I saw Evan Dando play solo once and he was great: engaging, funny, focused.

I talked to someone else who saw him play a few nights later and they said he was completely incoherent, shambolic, could barely play.

I saw Lemonheads once a few years ago. The support band finished, hours ticked by, the band hadn't started. Suddenly, there's a hubbub and Evan is stumbling through the venue wearing a huge coat, pushing his way through the crowd towards the stage. He finds his way past security and backstage and then eventually the band starts playing. The show was fine.

I have a friend who was invited by Dando himself to play lead guitar for them on this tour (he'd already toured with them once before, playing bass). Two days before he was set to drive up for rehearsals, Dando called him saying "sorry, we wanna keep it a three-piece." Then two days later Dando called him again like "where the fuck are you?! Get up here for rehearsal." My friend drove up the next day and rehearsed with the rest of the band because Dando was nowhere to be found. After a couple days Dando showed up and was livid to find my friend playing with them, sent him packing.

doug’s Steppenwolf post in the “find a song everyone likes” thread reminded me that every time I think of Steppenwolf, I remember the time in college when my dad ordered an 8-disc “best of the 60s and 70s” box set from Time Life. Then he gave me a list of his favorite songs and I narrowed it down to one disc, ripped and burned those songs, and he returned the box set for a refund.

He didn’t ask if I knew how to get those songs. He didn’t know about Soulseek or whatever, he just concocted the whole ruse himself. And I didn’t want to tell him, bc I loved the the idea and our teamwork.

Respect your elders, kids.

This takes me back to a time where I knew a lot of songs only by their 7 second clip on the long commercial that ran for 30 minutes on a loop on channel 13.

Gimme Shelter is Keith Richard’s masterpiece.
Learning that Del Shannon’s “Runaway” is a sped up recording kind of disappoints.
You should stay real close to Jesus.

I really like Sam Fender’s Seventeen Going Under, but I get the feeling I wouldn’t be much into his other stuff.

This is a good line... if I was placing a bet, I think I'd take the over. But what a perfect line.
