My brother text me tonight saying that his 15 year old daughter was dissed at school today by a girl who said she wouldn't like a playlist as it was "too Indie".
He asked me to put together a quick list of 10 current, suitably 'alternative' songs that she could use to throw back at this music snob.
It was an interesting excercise. What are some songs you guys would suggest?
Hell knows but here's a couple of possibilites
Angel Olsen - Shut Up Kiss Me Car Seat Headrest - Destroyed By Hippie Powers Camp Cope - West Side Story

I ended up going with 'Girl Rock' as a bit of a theme. Camp Cope, Priests and Cherry Glazerr all got a song. 'Aussie Indie' was also represented with Methyl Ethel, Spookyland and Scott & Charlene's Wedding.
Probably should have thrown a 'Hooley Dooleys' song on there too. They were far more 'Indie' than the Wiggles after all...

Hop along and Mitski.
Chewm's 2016 mix is great. Check it out Higgs.
Oh, but I have. Historically Chewm's tastes and mine have followed similar paths so I was keen to listen to his mix last year. Good stuff.

I'm seeing more and more independent artists upload their albums or EPs as a single Youtube video and having that be the extent of their digital distribution. Really not into that.

Daft Punk are just brilliant. Some of the most easy-to-enjoy music I've ever heard. I listened to them a lot when I was living in NY (they were sort of a touchstone of popular production sounds), but I'm having a new appreciation for them lately. I'd say my favorite album to listen to all the way through is Discovery, 'coz there's not a bad song in the bunch. But then the high points of Human After All is probably their best stuff ever.
