How does Zack de la Rocha support himself any more? He's released only two songs in the last 18 years and hasn't played with RatM since 2011, and even then that was one show since 2008. I know he's done some guest spots but come on, there's no money there. He must have had one hell of a money manager or something.

Pretty sure that Evil Empire and Battle of Los Angeles set him up for several lifetimes (the debut album was most likely, by common industry standards at the time, an almost entirely recoupable expense for Epic Records).

I remember reading somewhere that RATM got an incredible record deal from Epic, both monetarily and creatively.
now that you mention it I that sounds familiar, probably this interview with Morello?

Morello said, "Epic agreed to everything we asked—and they've followed through ... We never saw a[n] [ideological] conflict as long as we maintained creative control."[10]
Friend recommended Nothing But Thieves. I'd never heard of them. She thought I'd appreciate their stuff. I've only listened to half of their most recent record, but I think I dig them.
