The board's server will undergo upgrade maintenance tonight, Nov 5, 2014, beginning approximately around 10 PM ET. Prepare for some possible down time during this process.
i really like all of these guys a lot, especially for valley rides.. out of all of em tho, moes still my favorite
ive been dl'ing many jam band boots, mainly because most new things that come out suck, and i found a particular site that constantly posts new sbd shows
ive been getting a ton of umphreys mcgee.. theyre cool stuff but ive mostly been checking out their live covers.. they usually do 1-2 per show and theyre pretty awesome.. put together a big mix of em
im thinkin this phase has been started by my recent love of grateful dead boots

On the old board the Yo La Tengo thread was five pages long and they're pretty widely loved so this thread should definitely handle the burgeoning jam band scene of the early 2010s.

I understand people listen to music for all different reasons. But I just cannot like a genre of music that is essentially made to be nothing but background music. The lyrics are only there to connect the dots. I would say a high % of folks who go to such shows and listen to such music are only there to get fucked up and twirl hula hoops and glow sticks. Shitty audience bootleg recordings playing on your stereo that sits below your glow in the dark grateful dead poster from the bedroom down the hall -while you get fucked up on the couch.

Good.
... ubiquitous...
Not to get defensive, listen to whatever the fuck ya want and dig what ya dig but really?
Background music is a lame assumption, try harder. Lyrics are not solely there to connect the dots if you take all the bands at hand; some I'll agree with but stow that wide brush away for a bit. Slagging the fans is getting away from the music so why entertain any argument here. Dunno 'bout your last comment but a fair amount of bands with this label have open taping policies as well as offering full soundboard recordings to be purchased after the fact.

I'm not any more of a "Jam Band" aficionado than anybody else, but, to be fair, this is almost word-for-word the same critique I often see hurled at jazz and classical music (not comparing the genres, but the criticism I've heard them get). You may not connect with it, but most of the time it's really not that surface-level. Unless you're listening to Muzak or something.
