The board's server will undergo upgrade maintenance tonight, Nov 5, 2014, beginning approximately around 10 PM ET. Prepare for some possible down time during this process.
This is definitely one of those bands that takes multiple listens before things really click. The songs can seem somewhat same-y and unremarkable on first listen, but then slowly the hooks start to reveal themselves.
also, both records have that "cathartic" moment for me: 5:15 of In Reverse (when the acoustic kicks in) and 6:26 of In Chains with the piano and sax finale
i've been listening to slave ambient all day. i love brothers. it reminds me of a kurt vile song...maybe...maybe air bud? i'm not sure, but I've definitely heard a similar guitar melody in a kv song. i know this is the last WOD album kv was a part of, and i know kv recycles a lot of his melodies/guitar parts/whatever for different songs. so i wonder if he wrote the melody for brothers, and used it later for one of his own songs.
best night and come to the city...i mean, goddamn, y'all. so good. i'm half-tempted to buy the vinyl.

fun fact: during the national's "trouble will find me" tour, the band used to show themselves backstage getting ready to come out, and they would play "brothers" during the walk-out music.

been playing a lot of the back catalog stuff, and i love, love, love, comin' through. my only complaint is i feel like it ends too soon. i want them to jam it out a little.
do they extend it some when they play it live? do they play it much?

That end section of Old Skin is so good. I keep going back to that part starting 3 minutes in or so.
and that big piano hook in Victim is perfect
Not War on Drugs related. Do you have a copy of the gif that your avatar comes from at all? I love that gif and can't find it anywhere these days. And believe me, I've searched!

I agree, Comin Through might be their best song. Yes they do (or did) play it live semi-frequently. When I saw them on the Lost in the Dream tour, they played it and it was disappointing. But I don't know if my judgement is fair. He sang it with a completely different vocal tempo, and I love the studio version so much I was biased against any alterations! I don't remember if they extended it.
