Don't make me chase you
Even doves have pride

I believe these are end times
Wouldn't it be best to be together then?
The smell of your box on my mustache
or a crossword on our mind

Baby girl, he's a loner
Late night organ donor
After that he disown ya
After that he's just hopeless
Soul mates become soulless
When he's sober it's over

It might literally be my favorite song of all time.

Somewhere on a desert highway
She rides a Harley-Davidson
Her long blonde hair flyin' in the wind
She's been runnin' half her life
The chrome and steel she rides
Collidin' with the very air she breathes
The air she breathes.

I don't really miss God
But I sure miss Santa Claus

Since my fling with you, time went from
Popping off three times a day to popping off three times a week

I hear stories from the chamber
Of how Christ was born into a manger
And like some ragged stranger
Died upon the cross
And might I say it seems so fitting in its way
He was a carpenter by trade
Or at least that's what I'm told

I've been desensitized to the human body
I could look at you naked and all I'd see would be anatomy
Just bones and insecurity
Flesh and electricity

August came on like a love song
Like the way that she does
Glint of gold in her hair
All her devil-may-care
But she never stays long

I had a bit of country driving to do over last weekend and found myself returning again and again to the Camp Cope album. Good stuff.

I went down to the battle creek,
the things I saw there were amazing.
Bones never looked so real before,
I believed they were there
but now I'm sure.

I'm sure.

I was down by the battle creek,
the sheer numbers were startling.
Death never felt so real before,
always knew it was there
but now I'm sure.

I'm sure.

Oh my daughters, oh my sons and lovers,
Did I raise you to harm one another?
Or did you learn it from someone else?
Did you pull it from someone else's hands?
And when you slip into blinking red,
do you blame it on God or on your fellow man?

I returned from the battle creek,
but my heart did not make it back with me.

some cheer for your monday

For once I didn’t go home after shift
I called my wife and said I’d be late
Every day it gets harder to go home

I rode with a guy from work named Ronnie
I’d never been to his house before
His wife was high on the couch watching TV
Their kids were fighting in the yard
so we got out of there

We drove to a strip bar called Mary’s
But the girls there were so young
And who am I?
Just a middle aged man, I’m who they hate

Ronnie went to the front and sat at the line
So I left him there
I bought a bottle and I didn’t call home
I didn’t go home

A night in the city
The city at night

I got sick behind a car, slept against a bank wall
Ate at Annie’s Donuts and made it to work on time

Is this all there is? Is this what life is?
A job that means nothing
A woman who sleeps right next you
But she ain’t yours at all

A one night rebellion that ends up just being a drag
Like a weight around your feet that ain’t heavy enough to send you down

But I remember in the back of a bar called the Blue Sea
My wife sitting on my lap, whispering,
“You and me, only you and me”

A night in the city
The city at night

This stretch from "Private Execution" by The Drones has been ripping my guts out today:

The best songs are like bad dreams
If you can cover all the exits
But one by one they blur and you’re forgetting all the words by the time you get to breakfast

A reckoning election
A politician's corkscrew
A credit card, mini bar, private rental car, and a Western education

12 square feet of dirty day
The whole world made to order
I’m either taking up more space than I have taken up before or the days are getting shorter
