Broke into her house. Saw her sittin' there
Drinking coke and whiskey in her bra and underwear
Saw him in the kitchen, hangin' up the phone
I asked him nicely please to pack his things and go

He gave her a reassuring look that said he wouldn't leave
But I asked him once again and this time pulled out my shiv
I struck him in the back and I pulled it out slow
And I watched him fall down
And as the morning sun rose
He looked at me and said:

"You missed my heart
You missed my heart
You got me good. I knew you would
But you missed my heart
You missed my heart."
Were his last words before he died

Looking out the window, up at the blue sky
Listening to her scream, listening to her cry
A feeling of relief came over my soul
I couldn't take it any longer and I lost control

I chased her up the stairs
And I pinned her to the ground
And underneath her whimpering
I could hear the sirens sound
I rattled off a list of everything I missed
Like going to the movies with her
And the way she kissed me
Driving into Wheeling and showing her off
Backyard barbecues and reunions in the park
I said I loved her skin and she started laughing
And while I clenched down on her wrist
She said "That's quite a list
But there's one thing you missed

You missed my heart, you missed my heart
That's quite a list, but what you really missed
You missed my heart, you missed my heart
That's quite a list, but what you really missed

Running through the parking lot
Running through the fields
Policemen on my back
Something hit my skull and cracked

They dragged me off to jail, set a million dollar bail
Where I tried to tie a noose, but I failed and I broke loose
Racing through the prison yard
Shot down by a tower guard
He got me in the shins
And he got me in the arms

They strapped me in the gurney
Took me to the infirmary
Where the priest read my last rites
And just before, everything went dark

I said: "He missed my heart, he missed my heart
He got me good, I knew he would
But he missed my heart, he missed my heart"
And just before, everything went dark

The most poetic dream came flowing like the sea
Laying there my lifeblood draining out of me
A childhood scene then, sky moon beams
Fishing with my friends sitting in the wild lands

Watching the Ohio river flow at night
Waiting for the bullhead catfishes to bite
Downriver from the Moundsville prison graveyards

The way the hair frames
Your face
Drink H2O, breathe O2
The way the lawn frames
Your home
Drink H2O, breathe O2

Left lane must turn left at signal
Right lane must turn right at signal
D o w n and that's the way we get down

No scissors in bed
Tired of waking up with a new haircut every morning
So it's "no scissors in bed."

Language sent to bed at signal
Mystery sent to bed at signal
Safety sent to bed at signal?
The right hand signal

Read along:
1. refurnish the murder scene
2. allow for motion discomfort
3. make a pageant decoding your body
4. aim to keep the air conditioned dishes dirty

Now it's something we own
It's burning
They're burning it
The vapor is killing us

Well, I hope that someday, buddy
We have peace in our lives
Together or apart
Alone or with our wives
And we can stop our whoring
And pull the smiles inside
And light it up forever
And never go to sleep
My best unbeaten brother
This isn't all I see
Oh no, I see a darkness
Oh no, I see a darkness
Oh no, I see a darkness
Oh no, I see a darkness
Did you know how much I love you?
Is a hope that somehow you
Can save me from this darkness

Current mood:

Every day I wake up we drink a lot of coffee and watch the CNN
Every day I wake up to a bowl of clover honey and let the locusts fly in
Lobsterbacks attack the town again
Wrap all my things in aluminum
Beams of darkness streak across the sky
Pink rays from the ancient satellite
Every time I look out my window same three dogs looking back at me
Every time I open my windows cranes fly in to terrorize me
The power of the Holy Ghost
The power of the Holy Ghost
Shadow of the New Praetorian
Tipping cows in fields Elysian
Saturnalia for all you have
The seven habits of the highly infected calf
Swan diving off the tongues of crippled giants
International Business Machine
Choking on bits of barley bread crumbs
Oh this burning beard I have come undone
Oh this burning beard I have come undone
It's just as I've feared, I have, I have come undone
Bugger, bugger, bugger dumb the last of academe
Okkam's razor makes the cutting clean
Shaven like a banker, lilac vegetal
Break the glass ceiling and golden parachute on down
The power of the Holy Ghost comes to town
Remove the shadow of the New Praetorian
Tipping cows in fields Elysian
Saturnalia for all you have
The seven habits of the highly infected calf
The seven habits of the highly infected calf

Unsent Letter
Machine Gun Fellatio

I try to talk to you
Can't get past the weather
The friend I thought I knew
Has found somethin', somewhere better
So I'm hanging on your line
Thought we could speak together
Tell me what it is with you, you seem gone forever
I'm spendin' all my time driven round fakin' clever
With a girl who seems all right and another one who's better
I don't know if I lied when I said we're not together
But I try to talk to you, somehow you seem gone
I know I could have been tryin' not to think about it
Found it hard to live with this, and longer to live with out it
My dreams have caught me out I find my self surrounded
By the odds of our own end enough said about it
I'm spendin' all my time driven round fakin' clever
With a girl who seems all right and another one who's better
I don't know if I lied when I said we're not together
But I try to talk to you, some how you seem gone
I'm given up some thing, I guess that doesn't matter
Started other things, I guess that doesn't matter
I finally wrote your song, another unsent letter
In a pile addressed to you, care of somethin', somewhere better

I'm spendin' all my time driven round fakin' clever
With a girl who seems all right and another one who's better
I don't know if I lied when I said we're not together
But I try to talk to you, some how you seem gone
I'm spendin' all my time driven round fakin' clever
With a girl who seems all right and another one who's better
I don't know if I lied when I said that I'm together
But I try to talk to you, some how you seem gone forever
Yeah, but I try to talk to you, some how you seem gone forever
Yeah, but I try to talk to you, some how you seem gone forever
Yeah, but I try to talk to you, some how you seem gone

I can't decide if this song is depressing or somehow uplifting, and reading the lyrics in print really does it no justice at all but here you go.

Eyes of a Child by Soul Asylum

She had 13 kids, each one had 13 problems
Three uppers, ten downers, just to put up with this
And she don't know which children belong to which father
But she loves them all anyway and they each get a kiss

And the toilet ain't flushing and the toaster is smoking
The vacuum don't suck but it needs a new belt

But she saw the world through the eyes of a child
And remembers how good it was and how good it felt

He picked up the paper from the bitter cold morning
He had just gone to sleep, he had to get up for work
By morning he's a watchman and by night he's a waiter
In the late afternoon he works as a clerk

And he can't pay the doctor bills, he just can't afford the pills
The car's repossesed and the child support's due

But he saw the world through the eyes of a child
Big problems seem smaller and old things seem new

She was just six when she turned her first trick
Now she's thirteen and it don't make her sick
And she does lots of crystal and she owns her own pistol
Got a goldfish named Silver and a pimp who's named Rick

And some are like customers and some are like patients
She'd have gone back to school if she'd just had the patience

But she saw the world through the eyes of a child
None of the nightmares, and nothing to deny
She saw the world through the eyes of a child
Yes she's seen it all and she knows they're all lies

There's a skirt in the bedroom that's pleasantly low

I bomb atomically, Socrates' philosophies
And hypotheses can't define how I be droppin' these
Mockeries, lyrically perform armed robbery
Flee with the lottery, possibly they spotted me
Battle-scarred shogun, explosion when my pen hits
Tremendous, ultra-violet shine blind forensics
I inspect view through the future see millennium
Killa Beez sold fifty gold sixty platinum
Shackling the masses with drastic rap tactics
Graphic displays melt the steel like blacksmiths
Black Wu jackets Queen Beez ease the guns in
Rumblin' patrolmen tear gas laced the function
Heads by the score take flight incite a war
Chicks hit the floor, die hard fans demand more
Behold the bold soldier, control the globe slowly
Proceeds to blow swingin' swords like Shinobi
Stomp grounds I pound footprints in solid rock
Wu got it locked, performin' live on your hottest block

I'm not sure how great these lyrics are vs. how much this song has just resonated with me so strongly all my life; I think it's both

Murder Of One - Counting Crows

blue morning, blue morning, wrapped in strands of fist and bone
curiosity, kitten, doesn't have to mean you're on your own
you can look outside your window, he doesn't have to know
we can talk a while, baby, we can take it nice and slow

all your life is such a shame
all your love is just a dream

are you happy where you're sleeping? does he keep you safe and warm?
does he tell you when you're sorry? does he tell you when you're wrong?
I've been watching you for hours; it's been years since we were born
we were perfect when we started; I've been wondering where we've gone

all your life is such a shame
all your love is just a dream

well I dreamed I saw you walking up a hillside in the snow
casting shadows on the winter sky, as you stood there counting crows
one for sorrow, two for joy
three for girls and four for boys
five for silver, six for gold
seven for a secret never to be told

there's a bird that nests inside you, sleeping underneath your skin;
when you open up your wings to speak, I wish you'd let me in

all your life is such a shame
all your love is just a dream

open up your eyes, you can see the flames
of your wasted life; you should be ashamed

you don't want to waste your life, baby
you don't want to waste your life, darling

I walk along these hillsides in the summer 'neath the sunshine,
I am feathered by the moonlight falling down on me

change, change, change

As long as there's been stories, lies and airwaves
What makes a man a man's been right up front
In visions boys are sold of what it could be
Grievance when it ain't like what they thought

When money and respect seemed to elude him
And being white alone don't make the ladies swoon
There's no shortage when it comes to hearing voices
Telling him it's him that's done it too

Say his trouble with the ladies can't be his fault
After all he's what it's natural they should want
There's just outside voices turning them against him
A conspiracy to water down his blood

A conspiracy to water down his blood
And it's all the fault of it, or them, or they
Give a boy a target for his grievance
And he might get it in his head they need to pay

Yeah, giving boys targets for their grievance
And then mocking those who bear the pain they cause
It takes a certain special kind of something
To cash the check it brings and sleep at all

The demonizing of the troubled mind
With all the usual suspects on the scene
Merchants selling young men reclamation
Merchants selling old men back their dreams

Oh, suspended disbelief and wishful thinking
Comes the vision of a special hell for cons
Who sell the marks the doubt it even happened
An eternity for every tear they've mocked

An eternity for every tear they've mocked
May the price of freedom finally be their own

May our thought and our prayers keep them company
As they wallow in their helplessness alone
