I love those. Man, i need to listen to more Drones.

Thanks to Spenno for this gem as well.

Well you are all my brothers, and you have been kind
But what were you expecting to find?
Now your eyes turn inwards, countenance turns blank
And I'm floating away on a barrel of pain
It looks like nothing but the sea and sky remain

A harpoon's shaft is short and wide
A grappling hook's is cracked and dry
I said, why don't you get down in the sea
Turn the water red like you want to be?

Cause if I cry another tear I'll be turned to dust
No the sharks won't get me they don't feel loss
Just keep one eye on the horizon man, you best not blink
They're coming fin by fin until the whole boat sinks

Yeah, "Shark Fin Blues" is magnificent. Gareth Liddiard is maybe one of the best lyricists ever. This bit from "Why Write a Letter That You'll Never Send?" also always shreds me:

I don't believe no one no more, I don't care what no one says
I just want to make the world a much less painful place
And we look fonder on the good old days as they drift further away
But why if everyone feels so homesick are they always setting sail?
'Cause it's all bad news up there on deck and each headline masks the next
I'd just as soon dive in the ocean and forego the blood and sweat
And forego all aspiration and just put everyone at odds
If idle hands are the Devil's work, then where's the time for God's?

Say yes to a real life ambition, say yes to our hopes and our plans
Forget about your indecision, let's get the beast off our land
A tree that can grow no longer, a beach that has got no sand
I would pay out a king's ransom, if we could just understand
Got your last meal, filled up with pesticide
Hamburger chain third world infanticide
Got robot car your jobs will disappear
It's the politics of a brand new year
Manhattanization is coming, open your eyes if you dare
Carry us on to the crossroads, come to your senses and care

16 million, I can't hear you at all

Some say that's progress
I say that's cruel

You may be safe in your hemisphere
But there's so much junk in the stratosphere
We got our eyes on the firmament, hands on the armaments
Heads full of arguments, and words for our monuments

I won't deny it, can we survive?

Some say that's progress
I say that's cruel.

A heart that's full up like a landfill
A job that slowly kills you
Bruises that won't heal
You look so tired, unhappy
Bring down the government
They don't, they don't speak for us
I'll take a quiet life
A handshake of carbon monoxide
With no alarms and no surprises
No alarms and no surprises
No alarms and no surprises
Silent, silent

This is my final fit
My final bellyache
With no alarms and no surprises
No alarms and no surprises
No alarms and no surprises, please
Such a pretty house
And such a pretty garden
No alarms and no surprises (Let me outta here)
No alarms and no surprises (let me outta here)
No alarms and no surprises, please (let me outta here)

Just this one line from Nick Cave + TBS's "The Lyre of Orpheus":

"Eurydice was still asleep in bed like a sack of cannonballs"

My first memory of music's from
The time at JCPenney's with my mom
The watermelon candy I was choking on
Barbara screaming, "Someone help my son!"
I relive it most times the radio's on
That "tell me lies, sweet little white lies" song
That's when I first saw the comedy won't stop for
Even little boys dying in department stores

Last Friday I took acid and mushrooms.
I did not transcend, I felt like a walking piece of shit
in a stupid looking jacket.

Oh my God. She's so hot. She's so flippin' hot. She's like a curry.
I want to tell her how hot she is, but she'll think I'm being sexist.
She's so hot she's making me sexist.
Bitch.

A masterpiece.

Mike Cooley wrote:
Your Daddy was mad as hell
He was mad at me and you
When he tied that chain to the front of my car
And pulled me out of that ditch that I slid into

Don't know what his problem is
Why he keeps sending me away
Don't know why I put up with this shit
When you don't put out and Zip City's so far away

*

Your Daddy is a deacon down at the Salem Church of Christ
And he makes good money as long as Reynolds Wrap keeps everything wrapped up tight
Your Mama's as good a wife and mama as she can be
And your sister's putting that sweet stuff on everybody in town but me

Your brother was the first born
Got 10 fingers and 10 toes
And it's a damn good thing
Cause he needs all 20 to keep the closet door closed

*

May it's the 26-mile drive from Zip City to Colbert Heights
Keeps my mind clean, gets me through the night
Maybe you're just a destination, a place for me to go
Keeps me from having to deal with my 17-year-old mind all alone

Keep your drawers on girl, it ain't worth the fight
By the time you drop 'em I'll be gone
And you'll be right where they fall
The rest of your life

*

You say you're tired of me taking you for granted
Waiting up 'til the last minute
To call you up and see
What you wanna do

But you're only 15, girl
You ain't got no secretary
And for granted's a mighty big word
For a country girl like you

I think that's just your daddy talking
'Cause he knows that blood red carpet at the Salem Church of Christ
Ain't gonna ever see no wedding
Between me and you

*

Zip City, it's a good thing that they built a wall around you
Zip up to Tennessee, zip back down to Alabama
Got 350 heads on a 305 engine, I get 10 miles to the gallon
I ain't got no good intentions

Never thought about the world without you,
and I promise that I'll never say a bad word about you.
I thought I saw you yesterday,
But I knew it wasn't you, 'cause you passed away, Dad...
Looked just like you,
Strange things my imagination might do,
Take a breath, reflect on what we been through,
Or am I just going crazy 'cause I miss you?

Calling all frat boys to trade in their hazing
Their keggers and cocaine
And casual date raping
For cabinet appointments
And rose garden tapings
Backwoods, backwoods, backwoods, nation

Pedro lives out of the Wilshire Hotel
he looks out a window without glass
The walls are made of cardboard, newspapers on his feet
his father beats him 'cause he's too tired to beg

He's got 9 brothers and sisters
they're brought up on their knees
it's hard to run when a coat hanger beats you on the thighs
Pedro dreams of being older and killing the old man
but that's a slim chance he's going to the boulevard

He's going to end up, on the dirty boulevard
he's going out, to the dirty boulevard
He's going down, to the dirty boulevard

This room cost 2, 000 dollars a month
you can believe it man it's true
somewhere a landlord's laughing till he wets his pants
No one here dreams of being a doctor or a lawyer or anything
they dream of dealing on the dirty boulevard

Give me your hungry, your tired your poor I'll piss on 'em
that's what the Statue of Bigotry says
Your poor huddled masses, let's club 'em to death
and get it over with and just dump 'em on the boulevard

Get to end up, on the dirty boulevard
going out, to the dirty boulevard
He's going down, on the dirty boulevard
going out

Outside it's a bright night
there's an opera at Lincoln Center
movie stars arrive by limousine
The klieg lights shoot up over the skyline of Manhattan
but the lights are out on the Mean Streets

A small kid stands by the Lincoln Tunnel
he's selling plastic roses for a buck
The traffic's backed up to 39th street
the TV whores are calling the cops out for a suck

And back at the Wilshire, Pedro sits there dreaming
he's found a book on magic in a garbage can
He looks at the pictures and stares at the cracked ceiling
"At the count of 3" he says, "I hope I can disappear"
And fly fly away, from this dirty boulevard

I want to fly, from dirty boulevard
I want to fly, from dirty boulevard
I want to fly-fly-fly-fly, from dirty boulevard
I want to fly away
I want to fly
Fly, fly away
I want to fly
Fly-fly away (Fly a-)
fly-fly-fly (-way, ooohhh...)
Fly-fly away (I want to fly-fly away)
fly away (I want to fly, wow-woh, no, fly away)

Red red red red red red red red redneck
Well the boys 'round here don't listen to The Beatles
Run ole Bocephus through a jukebox needle
At a honky-tonk, where their boots stomp
All night what? (That's right)
Yeah, and what they call work, digging in the dirt
Gotta get it in the ground 'fore the rain come down
To get paid, to get the girl
In your 4 wheel drive (A country boy can survive)

Yeah the boys 'round here
Drinking that ice cold beer
Talkin' 'bout girls, talkin' 'bout trucks
Runnin' them red dirt roads out, kicking up dust
The boys 'round here
Sending up a prayer to the man upstairs
Backwoods legit, don't take no shit
Chew tobacco, chew tobacco, chew tobacco, spit

Aw heck
Red red red red red red red red red red redneck

Well the boys 'round here, they're keeping it country
Ain't a damn one know how to do the dougie
(You don't do the dougie?) No, not in Kentucky
But these girls 'round here yep, they still love me
Yeah, the girls 'round here, they all deserve a whistle
Shakin' that sugar, sweet as Dixie crystal
They like that y'all and southern drawl
And just can't help it cause they just keep fallin'

For the boys 'round here
Drinking that ice cold beer
Talkin' 'bout girls, talkin' 'bout trucks
Runnin' them red dirt roads out, kicking up dust
The boys 'round here
Sending up a prayer to the man upstairs
Backwoods legit, don't take no shit
Chew tobacco, chew tobacco, chew tobacco, spit

Let me hear you say
(Ooh let's ride)
Through the country side
(Ooh let's ride)
Down to the river side

Hey now girl, hop inside
Me and you gonna take a little ride to the river
Let's ride (That's right)
Lay a blanket on the ground
Kissing and the crickets is the only sound
We out of town
Have you ever got down with a
Red red red red red red red red red red redneck?
Do you wanna get down with a,
Red red red red red red red red red red redneck?
Girl you gotta get down

With the boys 'round here
Drinking that ice cold beer
Talkin' 'bout girls, talkin' 'bout trucks
Runnin' them red dirt roads out, kicking up dust
The boys 'round here
Sending up a prayer to the man upstairs
Backwoods legit, don't take no shit
Chew tobacco, chew tobacco, chew tobacco, spit

Red red red red red red red red redneck
(Ooh let's ride)
I'm one of them boys 'round here
(Ooh let's ride)
Red red red red red red red red redneck
(Ooh let's ride)

Well all I'm thinkin' 'bout is you and me, how we'll be
So come on girl, hop inside
Me and you, we're gonna take a little ride
Lay a blanket on the ground
Kissing and the crickets is the only sound
We out of town
Girl you gotta get down with a
Come on through the country side
Down to the river side

I can leave the wound wide open...
