Yeah, I absolutely think you can hear MJ's influence on Ed's Ten-era vocals. MJ had a really uniquely percussive delivery, and you can hear it in a lot of what Ed does on that record. Whether or not it was intentional, accidental, or somewhere in between, there's definitely strong hints of MJ in there.
rolling stone put Purple Rain at number 2 for the best albums of the 80s. Thriller was at 7
So there you go.
London Calling was #1 and The Joshua Tree was #3, right?
Weren't Sign "O" the Times and 1999 also in the top 10-15?
EDIT: Nevermind. 1999 was #16. Dirty Mind was #18. Sign "O" the Times was #76. Prince and Springsteen were the only artists with four albums in the top 100.

He was also reluctant to do what Jones calls a "beg" on "The Lady in My Life." "That's asking a girl to give you some," says the producer, laughing. "That's against Michael's nature."

I'm sure at least part of it was intentional. Ed's gone on record saying he first started singing to Jackson 5 albums
