Wife and I have also discussed how he can sound shitty sometimes. We think it's when he drinks too much. I don't know if it's about when, but place and setting, rather, or the mood they're going for. For instance, he sounds fantastic on that newer Live from The Beacon Theater but can sound like shit on older recordings as well as newer ones where he's kinda going for a more wild performance on stage.
I do like that this is going to be a much smaller, more intimate venue. It's where the Blues practice apparently.
