Does anyone have a collection of studio outtakes or rarities?

There's a torrent widely accessible called Elliott Smith - Discography that has 8 discs of studio outtakes tacked on at the end. Search on torrentz.eu and you should find it, no prob.

meantime, this kicks ass.

His self-titled album is vastly underrated. Even by hardcore fans, I think. Even by myself. I love that album, but I almost never put it on. Stupid. It's a great album.

Agree. This album is solid from start to finish.

That's a good one. He played a bunch of record store gigs in PHX during the mid-90s. I was at this one, which is the same record store in the video you posted above.

That one and Coming Up Roses are two of my all time favorite Smith tunes.

Love that cover of Thirteen. Really dig Big Star.

Fun story....

The first and only time I ever used a fake ID was when I saw Elliott Smith in Lawrence, Kansas at a place that is 21 and over. My buddy (who was 18 like me at the time) was going with his brother who was 22 and he scored us some fake IDs. I was nervous as well. I worried I'd get arrested or something. Naive kid I guess. Anyway, I got in and the show was incredible. He closed with a cover of Harvest Moon by Neil Young. SO great.

I saw the film and thought it was perfect. Looking forward to having the soundtrack.

I like the soundtrack quite a lot. There's nothing really revelatory, but it's a good listen.

I love Elliott Smith, but rarely play his music these days. I go through phases with him, and it's been a long dry spell. I got to see him in Boston right before the Good Will Hunting explosion. I think he played Harvest Moon then too.

I've been really disappointed with all the post-From a Basement releases that his estate and Larry Crane have been releasing. Probably great for the diehard fan, but I don't find that it adds much to his legacy, and the tracking and sequencing feels a little clunky.

I'll rank 'em:

Either/Or
XO
S/T
Figure 8
From a Basement on a Hill
Roman Candle
New Moon

His final three albums are almost faultless.

Meaning XO, Figure 8, and From a Basement...?
Or are you counting the later stuff as his "final three"?

XO through to Basement.

New Moon is a collection rather than an album.
