It’s on the 20th anniversary edition.
Yes but I've got no interest in that master, so I'd be buying it just for that one track
Why? It was remastered by Albini and it sounds great.
i agree it sounds great, but it’s a fairly subtle improvement over the original, and I prefer Albini’s mixes of the two aforementioned tracks. So it’s one of those things that ultimately becomes superfluous for me, especially since if I want the Albini experience, I’ve got the RSD remix.

I don't really see a point in another anniversary box of this album, the 20th anniversary box was perfectly fine. Plus you can find both those "unreleased" live shows on Youtube, shout out the channel AltCopperpot5 for uploading tons of sick live shows from the 90's.
Not in soundboard quality though. These are actually uncirculating, unlike the Nevermind box - where all of the shows were taken from old bootlegs even though some were professionally recorded.
In this instance, they appear to have taken everything from concerts prepared for the 1996 live album with only a few scattered tracks taken from bootlegs, even though all of their concerts were recorded straight to DAT by their soundman - so at least it's a step up in not caring.

This is an awesome interview. Lots of stuff the hardcore fans already know, peppered with some new anecdotes I’d not heard before, all told by the guys who were there. I’d take lots more hours of this.
I do think it’s weird how Grohl can make a doc about a Neve console or gush over Albini’s methods, yet never field a question about why the Foos records sound like crap.

Maybe no one has ever asked him.

I think there’s a polite way to do it that wouldn’t out him on the defensive.
I was just thinking this but im sure the answer is "we're not that kind of band"
Which I respect. Theyre not. They were at first when it was just Dave but they are a big modern rock band that pumps out albums and goes on tour and he lives a happy life.

As someone who’s never had 30K fans singing my songs, I’ll just assume that feeling is pretty incredible and makes it easy to develop new views on the creative merits of your songs
and im sure Dave Grohl is plenty happy with the foo's records too.
I think it serves their songs and purpose.
So they do or they don't think their records sound like shit?
Well youd have to ask them but your question but we could all give countless times artists have remixed and remastered their albums. It is also quite common that PJ were not happy with how Ten sounded either. So, what are you getting at here?

Jeff A hated how the mix of avocado turned out. And i think Matt C hated the production of LB. RHCP hated how they recorded and the sound of Mothers Milk. SG and Matt C were frustrated with the sound of Badmotorfinger
so yeah, most artists care about the sound of their albums, yes.
I liked the Foos sound until Wasting Light. Or maybe their music.

Trag said it was weird that no one challenged Dave about why his albums sound like shit. I asked if y'all really thought the band thought that was the case. Then you mentioned Pearl Jam. Then immediately after you said you thought Dave was happy with how the Foo's records sounded. I'm just trying to figure out whether or not people think that a candid Dave would admit that he thinks his records sound bad. Maybe he doesn't think they do? I have no idea. I've never talked to the man.
I know Jeff Ament has always had issues with the way Ten sounds, for example. But I have no idea how any member of Pearl Jam feels about the way Riot Act, or Backspacer, or Lightning Bolt sounds because I haven't heard any of them discuss those things.
By the "remix/remaster" argument (which I always thought was more about the record labels than the bands?) it seems Tom Waits thinks Real Gone wasn't mixed well and so his preferred version is the new one. But most fans really hate what they did to some of those songs (Hoist That Rag and Don't Go Into That Barn, for example). Do you think Tom prefers the original mix/master? Was the new mix/master a label thing? Or does Tom really think those versions are the "definitive" versions?
Obviously bands care about how they sound. That's not really up for debate. I just think it's interesting how often a fan will say "this sounds like shit!" but yet the artist still released it, knowing that they care how they sound. I just wonder how often an artist thinks the record sounds bad vs how often a fan does.
It's a stupid conversation for the internet, surely, but just something I think about. *shrugs*
