Wrong. The last NY disc I bought was HDCD encoded and the Grateful Dead box released last week is HDCD encoded too. They just don't put it on the packaging anymore.

"Time Fades Away" has been pushed ahead to September, BTW. Fucking Neil.

Ive got a decent older digital rip if you need it. But I am also looking forward to an official digital version.

Oh yeah, I've got the deleted HDCD promo. So I'm not hellbent on getting it now. But it's typical of Neil to push things ahead constantly. This is like the third or fourth time he's delayed these.

Really? I'm surprised, since Microsoft owns the tech and I didn't think it was licensed for use anymore. Huh.

Fiddling with the HDCD settings in Foobar, you can see what settings were applied to the discs. Most of them (and I'm talking HDCD in general) are encoded with HDCD but don't actually use any of the technology.

 I rediscovered this gem earlier this year. I enjoyed it when it came out, but hadn't spent much time with it since then. It's a beauty, one of the best post-70s Young records.

I'm fortunate in that my folks had a pretty awesome record collection they exposed me to.

I was still listening to Metallica and Ozzy when I was 13. Ugh.

I had a cousin who listened to Ozzy and was into drugs and shit so my mom wouldn't let me listen to any heavy metal. I had to bootleg tapes from my friends and listen with headphones. Prime 80's fear mongering.

That said, my mom had a ton of great records otherwise: The Doors, Beatles, Rolling Stones, John Denver, Peter, Paul & Mary (seriously) and a ton more I'm forgetting.

those are awesome bands whether you're 13 or 40, Ruddo!

I listened to that stuff too (and GnR and MC Hammer and Weird Al and everything else a 13 year old would check out in the early 90s). But then my folks had a collection that included Neil Young, Frank Zappa, Yes, The Squeeze, Bonnie Raitt, all sorts of great stuff.
