I've listened to Young Shakespeare a few times this week -- doesn't feel as essential as some other Archives releases from this general period (Massey Hall, Cellar Door), but it's still very enjoyable. Neil in fine voice singing one excellent song after another in a quiet, intimate setting -- checks all my boxes.
Way Down in the Rust Bucket, though -- now that's an album.
I learned two interesting things about Young Shakespeare this week--it was recorded just 3 days after the Massey Hall show (which is why it might sound a bit same-y) and the DVD that came out with Massey Hall was actually video of the Young Shakespeare show with the Massey Hall audio on top of it.
And, yeah, we do have a bunch of shows from this period and it'd be nice to branch out a bit, but (1) it's just so damn enjoyable to just throw it on and listen to and (2) Rust Bucket came out like 3 weeks ago, so who are we to complain?
Oh, no complaints intended -- as an owner of the Bob Dylan 1966 Live Recordings box set, to say nothing of my Pearl Jam bootleg collection that in retrospect feels like the result of a crazy person's manic hoarding spree, I have no objection to live albums that present similar-sounding sets from the same era. Young Shakespeare is an excellent recording. But I'd probably recommend Massey to someone only wanting one of the two.
Listened to the first half of Mirrorball yesterday....man, what an album.
Can't wait till he reissues this on vinyl. HOpe it coems with some extra special goodies including a live show.
Considering how quick the album was written and reorded, im assuming there wont be any unreleased songs but a repress of the vinyl and a live show on vinyl would just tickle my fancy.
Also, i can't believe i dont have massey hall on vinyl.

I have it on vinyl, not sure if its a bootleg or what. Sounds ok. Yeah, i would kill for a live show from that tour.
Also, i need more Neil on vinyl...i was about to buy Zuma a few years ago and didnt...
Those that have the NYA version of Time Fades Away on vinyl...is side A a bit noisey on your copy? I've got a ton repeat static in the same revolution spot throughout the entire side A, most noticeable on the quieter tunes.

I live and teach high school in Boulder, CO. The King Soopers shooting happened while we were out on spring break. The first time I walked downtown, on my way to work, the entire thing hit me hard. I randomly chose 14th street which led me past the one gun shop in town. Three years ago my neighbor, an elementary teacher, went in, bought a gun, and killed herself the same day. I got so upset, thinking about the randomness of this gun situation, the fact that we can't even talk about a "cooling off period" much less more strenuous measures. I thought about the neighbors I don't know who were just shopping for groceries. I threw in the headphones and hit shuffle....Neil's "Throw Your Hatred Down" came up first. Lyrics stood out that had before just passed by.
Neil is an artist and the universe has mysterious ways. That song will always have an extra meaning to me now.
I was just reading the Mirrorball entry in the PJ20 book the other night. Anyone know where I Got Shit and Long Road would have fit in the tracklist? Or didn't it get to that point?

Returned it for a brand new copy and same exact issue. How could this pass NY QC and make it to production?
It's the same Chris Bellman master as the prior re-release that can be found for like $23. But if you’re looking for the 7” outtakes, this is the best price we'll probably see it at for a while.

Did anyone see this on NYA in April? I only saw it on another site recently, and apparently it's been taken down, and of course I've heard this release dates have already been pushed back, but damn:
