The limited box finally arrived on Black Friday. It is gigantic in size, but I was surprised it was a bit bare bones in terms of content. Obviously, the music is incredible, but the book is mostly just pictures and there is not much else. For the price, I was hoping there would be song by song detailed analysis as in the recent Tom Petty Wildflowers box which was fantastic. That being said, I love having Dume and all other discs in hand.

Not surprising in the world of Neil that there is very little written content in the book, but like with Vol. I, the tape log at the back makes for some interesting "researching". There's still plenty that was apparently left off the box, most notably to me the Sedan Delivery take from Zuma/Dume. He recently stated it wasn't good enough for inclusion, but will hopefully show up as an outtake on the website.

I was thinking he might include some brief commentary like he did for Decade. Someone recently asked him about providing some background info on the Archives II songs and he said he may do so on the infocards here and there. Love that he replies to the fans.
Sedan Delivery outtake would be interesting to hear. Hope it sees the light of day someday.
Neil just posted a video of Throw Your Hatred Down w/ PJ from the '95 Dublin show on his site.
Man alive, I hope they post this whole concert. Great seeing this footage and Jack on the drums.
Oooh! Means he’s probably finally digging into this project! Can’t wait
It would be amazing if he releases that concert as one of his new projects for 2021. I just finished reading Shakey over the holidays. The author didn't sound too keen on PJ but to each his own and it was an incredible read overall.

Neil has already said he’s working on mirror ball reissue and how it was a very special record for him.
I’m sure a life show will be part of it in some way.

why? what does it say about the band
Basically the author asked Neil if he thought Pearl Jam's music was pretentious. Neil defended them and said he thought they were genuine even if they looked pretentious. Neil also said music is Ed's religion and he records everything (similar to Neil). Then the author called them Jethro Tull without the flute. Then Neil retorted: "If all I had was Pearl Jam, and I didn't have another band in the world, I would not be worried. Because in there is the essence of making great music."
There are some other interesting parts about PJ in the book. I was surprised to read that the author thought RITFW on the MTV Awards show was the "nadir" and the hoopla surrounding that performance unjustified. But he then goes on to praise them after Neil first played "Act of Love" live with PJ and said it was a blistering set and fit Young like a glove. Neil had to struggle to keep up and said afterward - "It was fuckin' great. I was sailin' along. It was like floating on a cloud...so effortless." Afterward a member of Crazy Horse told the author somewhat dejectedly about the performance of Neil w/ PJ "It was great. Great."
Listening to Return to Greendale quite a bit this past week -- I've always loved the feel of this album, and the live version, while not much different from the studio record (which speaks more to the natural, effortless feel of the album more than it does to any shortcoming on the part of the live performance), feels even more worn-in and comfortable. Some of the tunes get a little boring -- the two- to three-note vocal melodies don't really hold up for the length and narrative ambition of some of the songs -- but that Crazy Horse sound sure is something pleasurable to immerse in.
