Neil Young to unveil free online music archive on December 1st
Quote:
“[The archive is] a place you can visit and experience every song I have ever released in the highest quality your machine will allow. It’s the way it’s supposed to be. In the beginning, everything is free.”
When the Youngs divorced, Pegi was given their Broken Arrow Ranch in Redwood City, California, which Young bought in 1970. Pegi now runs the place herself, with hired hands. ("I feel like Barbara Stanwyck," she jokes, referring to the matriarchal character Stanwyck played in Sixties TV series The Big Valley.) She says she and her ex have little contact these days but did run into each other at this year's annual benefit for the Bridge School, the school for children with disabilities that Young co-founded in the Eighties. (Their son Ben was born with cerebral palsy.) "That was fine," she says. "I don't want awkward. Take the high road, that's my approach. The concert is about the kids and the preschool, and that's so much more important than the Neil and Pegi drama."
Real shame Neil’s pulled the plug on future Bridge School Benefits too.
This is incredibly presumptuous and rude me but I do have to wonder about Neil’s mental faculties a bit. He’s getting on in years and mental decline can manifest in all kinds of ways.

Im concerned for his health as well. He's made some very cryptic comments the past year along with pulling from the PJ Hall of Fame and the Bridge School stuff, the above auction, and giving his music away for free with this upcoming streaming service.

I'm skeptical of this vinyl edition of Harvest Moon that's coming out tomorrow. Someone posted the artwork and credits on Discogs, and it specifically says "Source: Mastered from 44/16 digital." All of the Archive/Original Release Series releases were newly mastered from the original analog tapes (and this one clearly doesn't have the "ORS" logo anywhere on it), so this is a drag. I will probably only pick it up if I can get it for under $20.

From everything I've read it sounds like he really fucked Pegi over and blindsided her. Real shame b/c I always looked up to him for managing to keep a long may you running relationship in that lifestyle and industry.
Now I'll just have to settle for looking down on him.
