The board's server will undergo upgrade maintenance tonight, Nov 5, 2014, beginning approximately around 10 PM ET. Prepare for some possible down time during this process.
Also interesting: If Neil ever releases Chrome Dreams as part of the archives series, it looks like that will be the third album to feature (what I assume is) the same recording of "Star of Bethlehem" (also, I think, the third to feature the same recording of "Pocahontas," though the original release had some overdubs). It will be interesting to see what Neil's catalog will look like 20 years from now if he keeps releasing stuff like this, as many of these abandoned albums are full of songs that he poached piecemeal for later records. I always wonder how weird anomalies like that will be absorbed into an artist's discography over time.
Separate Ways, Vacancy and White Line are the cream of the crop.
Love is a Rose, Little Wing, and Star of Bethlehem are all great songs and if I were hearing them for the first time here I would probably be blow away with this album.
I gotchu. Just read the last few pages. And it seems clear that the first impression was underwhelming for you but that it's grown some. Makes total sense.
I'm not the Neil Young guy that most of you are. I actually didn't know this was an old record that just say the light of day. I was gonna post about how fucking GREAT he sounds!
Glad I read through previous posts before I said that. I've maybe heard a third of Young's body of work. But this ranks high among the stuff I have heard. This is really really great. I think it'll end up in my top 10 albums of the year. Good chance of top 5.
