All of Herbie's Blue Note albums from the '60's are fantastic -- Maiden Voyage, Takin' Off, Empyrean Isles, Speak Like a Child, etc. All of 'em are great.

"Cantaloupe Island" was sampled by the group Us3 for the song "Cantaloop (Flip Fantasia)," which was a hit in the early '90's.

I couldn't get past the first few songs on this one. For whatever reason those weren't in my sweetspot, and perhaps my mood wasn't quite right either. I love the tune KD linked above, and I will have another crack next week I think.

*pulls up chair*

Got a stack of Miles Davis boots that I downloaded this past week, queued up today for the office. Ever wonder what it would be like to hear Miles cover "Broken Wings" by Mister Mister, something he did during encores apparently for approximately one week in 1985? I never did until I knew he'd done it, then I couldn't look away.

Also commemorating the loss (earlier this week) of the great guitarist Calvin Keys, a cornerstone artist on the Black Jazz label in the early '70's, and a distinguished career thereafter (much of which I am not familiar with, but hope to be someday). One of his signature records from that early Black Jazz period:

It's classic, lush, orchestral Frisell. Great stuff. Beautiful sound
