Minus a printing error on the back of the LP, the overall package is lovely: Great cover, liner notes, vinyl quality, and the sound and energy are really top-notch. The intro before the show starts is great, because it sets the stage for something really special...

But after listening to just the first LP, I'm not in love with the music. It's frenetic and smokin', which isn't really my jazz cup of tea. I prefer my jazz more dialed back, moody, melodic; Fleurette African from the Mingus/Roach/Ellington Money Jungle record is more my speed. And here there are some moments I connected with, but it's kind of a wall of spastic bop for long periods.

I'll listen to the other two discs, and am hoping that the second half of the concert -- the "jam" with more diverse instrumentation -- will grab me. And I'll give the whole set a few spins to settle in. But when all is said and done, I could see myself just selling it to the local shop.

I like jazz that's frenetic and smokin' too, but I just dropped in to say that this is also one of my favorite tracks. What a lovely performance.

Glad to see a Jazz discussion. The greatest US export!

But there should be more Dizzy.

American art shits all over the rest of the world's efforts, and it's not even close. Y'all motherfuckers are so lucky to live on that rock.

I have yet to be bowled over by a Miles Davis album.

I have generally been bowled over by listening to Miles Davis playing with Coltrane.

As it pertains to Miles Davis albums I have really come to love over the years, and I am by no means an expert of any kind, Kind of Blue, Milestones, and Birth of the Cool come immediately to mind for me. I haven’t explored nearly enough of his music and have listened in parts to other albums like Bitches Brew and Sketches of Spain - but there’s something to the particular sound of those above three albums that always hits perfectly. I always look forward to more explorations here since it is not my wheelhouse.

Kind of Blue is the only one I've really enjoyed.

Bitches Brew is a classic for a reason, but I'm not a huge fan of bop/acid jazz in general, and when I want it, I'll just go with Herbie Hancock so I at least get more of the acid and less of the bop.

Dark Magus is pretty awesome at time, but it also gets pretty wankish.

Not a big fan of Sketches of Spain.

There are others I've heard, but nothing ever grabbed me. And yet I still feel like I've just scratched the surface.

Coltrane, baby. That's much more my speed.

I really like all of Miles's work, but his crowning achievement in my opinion is In a Silent Way.
