This seems to be a favorite answer amongst collectors, but I have no need for an entire box.

Seems like so far it’s a race between early UK pressings and the MOFI. Both expensive. Don’t really need the cream of the crop, just a generally good sounding album. I have a US pressing from ‘69, and it just has some loud hissing an pops.

Yeah when I got my vinyl setup I went all out and found a really nice copy of the box set on ebay. But I'm a Beatles freak.

I would say early UK pressing is the way to go.

The MOFI's aren't anything great.

They are mastered very bright and thin and not thought highly of by audiophiles.

I don't know if it's cheaper, but the BC-13 box is much better quality.

i picked up the 2009 Mono box back when it was released. love that thing. i've had my Abbey Road copy for ages, and it plays like a VG+, but the jacket is beat to hell.

Question:

I inspected a house (for my job) the other day and there were records stacked on the floor. This woman was probably 60 years old or so. We started chatting about music. She has greate taste in music. Her collection had everything one might need and she saw the beatles. (she was basically my mother, rip)

Anywho, she started talking about how she has this very rare beatles record that is worth a shit ton of money. I forget what album it was, but it was an alternative cover with them in white doctor coats or something. Im thinking it was the original cover to Rubber Soul (it was the full album, not a single) and it was glorious. But i can't find anything online about it. The one thing I did see that came close was a single of sorts.

Actually, edit before finishing this post, it might have been this:

Holy shit.

Yep that’s the banned butcher cover for Yesterday and Today. That’s the one that McCready stole from under me at a record swap meet.

It depends. There are different versions of it. There are the original pressings of the butcher cover before they were pulled from the shelf. Then they were forced to have a new cover, So there was a period where a new cover was glued onto the butcher cover that had already been printed. Then they started printing new covers.

People try and find three versions of it: the original, unaltered one. The one with the new cover glued on and people over the years tried to peel it off. Or, third, the version with the new cover still glued on.

The first original is generally the most expensive. The one that McCready stole from me was the original, but it was in TERRIBLE condition. Dude was selling it for $100. I was thinking about it and trying to figure out how much to barter with him. then here comes McCready bouncing down the aisle, doesn’t barter and just pulls out a wad of cash and hands the guy a hundy.

Worth considering. Depending on the pressing and condition, could probably hawk it for $2k

I’d punch an old lady in the face if I had to, but for a Beatles record seems a bit uncalled for

this is really the only reason to punch an old lady in the face.
