What you refer to as bloat and lesser tracks are exactly what I think gives this album its charm. If we're playing the white album and Don't Pass Me By or Why Don't We Do It In The Road doesn't come on I'm going to be upset about it.
Let me qualify...I like them being on there. But having internalized the record and it having over 30 tracks at this point I'll skip the fuckers. But upon discovering the record and through the first 50 listens; I'm definitely glad the bloat is on there; it's still bloat though.
I don't know. I've listened to the white album as much as anyone and I still don't want to skip them.
The only one I'm known to skip from time to time is Revolution 9. And that's only sometimes.
So I was playing around with some outtakes and whatnot and I got to thinking about the Everest album that was never realized. I decided to put together my own hypothetical album.
My idea was basically that Let It Be did it's job and brought the band closer together. All songs written and/or recorded before Dec 1970. Tried to adhere to the traditional mix of Lennon an McCartney songs, while also giving George and Ringo some love. Tried to find songs where multiple Beatles performed. Also, tried to keep each side of the album consistent with the length of vinyl albums of the time.

Fuck...that's actually pretty good. I'd tweak a bit of the track listing (Ballad of John & Yoko opening song) and axe Give Peace a Chance...but that looks like one that would get heaps of praise.

Give Peace a Chance was my sort of olive branch pick. I figured the song would still have been a single, but since Lennon gave McCartney credit for it even though he didn't write a lick of the thing, it would be a good track to have on here. But, I agree. In actual life, I'm not sure that would be on there.
Yeah...Give Peace a Chance is just kind of an outlier (along with Instant Karma, kinda, but that song is so fucking good I said fugg-it) and I don't think John would have ever tried to get it onto an album proper.
i didnt read all 4 pages, but have you all come to the realization that Rubber Soul is their best album?
Nope. As a transitional record it's quite fucking amazing...but I think they got way more interesting starting with their very next record.
obviously as with most bands who have quite a few albums, favorites will always vary, and i cant ever say why that one is my favorite, but it just is, and like with PJ and No Code, my Fav song isnt even on it.

Mine are probably the White Album & Abbey Road. I actually like Let It Be quite a bit more than others it seems cuz I'd probably rank that about Rubber Soul and Revolver as well.

Now that I know Child of Nature ended up being Jealous Guy, I might be able to justify putting that one there instead. It's just tricky because I wanted an upbeat song that felt Beatles-y. And so much of John's first solo album feels like he's trying to shed The Beatles, I had issues coming up with another Lennon track to balance the Lennon and McCartney compositions.
So, yeah, it was a bit of a necessary inclusion more than anything else.

I love Let It Be. If Let It Be had been released with the stripped down sound of Let It Be...Naked, and/or included Don't Let Me Down, it would be my second favorite Beatles album.
