It was crazy when they juxtaposed the band playing rock and roll music with footage of them playing that song on the 1966 tour. It was only 2 1/2 years before, but it may as well have been 12 1/2.
This never fails to blow my mind. The short amount of time from Ed Sullivan/Beatlemania to Let it Be. What was that, 8 years?

I think it was more like 6. Ed Sullivan was early 1964; their final recording session was (I think) January, 1970. Talk about an entire lifetime crammed into short period; no wonder they were sick of each other.

I mean yeah. 13 generally accepted albums (with many variations - the number of people who probably bought records with similar cuts but different album names was probably off the charts) from 1963-1970. That’s nearly 2 albums per year, plus the White Album is a double album, plus they toured until ‘65(?). That’s a lot of work in a short time span - especially at as high a level as they were producing it. The only albums in there that I haven’t come to love yet are Yellow Submarine (and that is fast approaching - at least side A), and Beatles For Sale. Even those only suffer from standing in the same circle as the rest.

I think the restoration of the film gives it an otherworldly quality - an awe at being able to see these legends noodle in the studio and be people. It feels like it’s all happening in front of you in almost real time, which just seems very surreal. That is really the coolest aspect of it all - it doesn’t feel like some distant thing that happened more than 50 years ago.

Finished Get Back last night. All of the investment in watching them work out the songs for many hours pays off in the last hour. Really tremendous to watch.

i think this is best viewed with some historical perspective on where the band was at the time of the members' careers and what happened later that year.

I gotta say, some of the reactions are a little funny. "Can you believe Paul just wrote 'Get Back' on the spot like that?"
I mean... yeah, I can! "Get Back" is like two chords, and Paul is an extremely gifted songwriter. That sounds to me like the exact type of song someone with his musical mind could whip up with minimal effort. I guess it's cool to actually get to see it

I wonder if 8 1 hour long episodes would have been better. I love the Beatles but three hours a pop? I mean yeah I could just break it up myself but yikes.

The second one is the best one
we’re about 2/3 of the way through this episode, and I have to say…when Billy Preston shows up and plays keys for them on Don’t Let Me Down, my wife and I both let out a wow. Can’t recall the other song he played on, but it got a wow from us as well.
So far, ep. two is my favorite.
