There’s an 8000-word post in my head about the blatantly obvious influence of King Tubby Meets Rockers Uptown on Thom’s entire solo output but I’m too busy to actually type it so you’re just gonna have to trust me on this one.
Thought some of you folks might be interested in this great British podcast I've been enjoying lately called 'What Is Music?'
They do deep dive analyses through an artist's entire discography over the course of a year. They did Muse last year which was fun for me being such a big fan back in the day, and their detail-focused chatter about the history of Radiohead and the meanings and makings of every song is a great listen so far

man, I wouldn't be bothered by this if the Smile or Thom's other solo stuff were up to par with Radiohead. There's a magic when they all get together and I'd be sad to never get new material from them.

Listened to Anima last night on my headphones, first time in a while I spun that one. It’s a pretty remarkable record. He makes synths and drum loops sound more organic than any other musician I can think of. Textures drift in and out, delays and reverbs and all manner of affected instrument send take what would be pretty sterile in almost anyone else’s hands and being the whole thing to life.
Mixing this record was either a huge pain in the ass, or totally off the cuff and they just let the chips lay where they fell.
my guess is this album owes a huge debt to nigel. i read in an interview that thom just had a whole bunch of tracks that he and nigel pieced together.
Going hard on this album over the last week. Liked it quite a bit when it came out, but it’s now love

I think I was wrong about A Moon Shaped Pool. I gave it proper headphones treatment, and there's a lot to love here. I will say, though, putting 'Daydreaming' at track 2 was a blunder in terms of album flow. It would fit much better a little later in the piece.
