There is one, and perhaps the greatest, Zep album in here, if they cut it down to a single album.
PG was their first attempt at doing a "Lost Dogs" type thing, so there would have been no reason to strip it down.
They already did that with the previous 3 albums, hence the need for it to be a double. They had more than an album's worth of extra material lying around.

Don't get me wrong, it is my favorite song they do. But I can't really call it their best song because it is a cover.
The music is SO different from the original, tho. Yes, it’s a cover, but not a straight up cover like Pearl Jam doing Last Kiss. The only thing Zep kept was the lyrics. And that fucking groove. Memphis Minnie wishes she brought that groove to it.

How Many More Times, In My Time of Dying, Kashmir, Tea For One, Gallows Pole, Tangerine, Good Times Bad Times...those are some of the favorites without thinking too hard.

Heard Black Dog coming out of the oldest Weaseling's room earlier, so I went in. She got a turntable for Christmas and raided Papa Wease's vinyl collection. She was spinning IV and said she's played it a few times and really digs it. Misty Mountain Hop is her favorite followed by Evermore. I told her to listen to Levee a few times and really listen to the groove they build in it. She's turned on to it.

I am glad to have opened up some good discussion with this. And with that in mind...
Led Zeppelin III - THIS! Outside of the finale, Hats Off to Roy Harper, this album is pretty much near perfect. The songs rumble along exactly as they should. Jimmy’s use of acoustic guitars throughout is probably my favorite aspect of this album and makes cohesive what is a very eclectic album - at least by Led Zeppelin standards. Your unsung hero here is Out on the Tiles, but everything is pretty much spot on. Tangerine and That’s the Way provide great folksy (for Zeppelin) touches while their version of Gallows Pole soars. Since I’ve Been Loving You made a big impact for me on this listen in it’s straight bluesiness.
