Do any of you guys listen to old Mission of Burma? Signals, Calls, and Marches in particular sounds like a post-punk REM. I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that Michael Stipe was copping one of the singer's voices.

Have to say I've not really enjoyed much of MOB's second act. Something about the tiny recordings on those early records was so charming; now everything sounds big and ugly.

I only listened to those albums like once a few years ago and remember nothing about them, so I don't really have an opinion about them.

This is a great track:

I just finished listening to Reckoning. I wouldn't argue with someone saying it's their best but I still prefer AFTP. It might be their most consistent record whereas AFTP has higher highs.

Guys, I'm thinking we should just have this be the studio records plus any fully finished b-sides on the major GH packages (eponymous, In Time, And I Feel Fine, and Part Lies... ). The rest of the stuff is probably a bit too obscure.

So including everything from Dead Letter Office the list of 'b-sides' would include
Romance
It's a Free World Baby
Fretless
The Great Beyond
Bad Day
Animal
Chance
Revolution
All the Right Friends
A Month of Saturdays
We All Go Back to Where we Belong
Hallelujah

Stuff I arbitrarily think we should include because it's awesome
Arms of Love
First We Take Manhattan
Draggin the Line
Wall of Death
Academy Fight Song
Indian Summer
See No Evil

Sponge
Love is All Around

Photograph
Live for Today
New Orleans Instrumental Number 2

Stuff I wouldn't include:
Spoiler: show
Winged Mammal Theme
Organ Song
Mandolin Strum
I Walked with a Zombie
Deck the Halls
Dark Globe
The Lion Sleeps Tonight
Tired of Singing Trouble
Ghost Rider
Fun Time
Memphis Train Blues
Rotary Ten
Rotary Eleven
Last Date
Dream (All I Have to Do)
2JN
Theme From Two Steps Onward
Mystery to Me
Moon River
Tighten Up
Tricycle
Emphysema
Surfing the Ganges
The Passenger
Yellow River
165 Hillcrest
Favorite Writer
Out int he Country
Adagio
Airliner
Redhead Walking
Fascinated
Parade of the Wooden Soliders
Good King Wenceslas
Ghost Reindeer in the Sky
Summertime
Baby Baby
Where's Captain Kirt
Toyland
Silver Bells
Christmas Time is Here
Sex Bomb
Christmas in Tunisa
Wicked Game
Java
Only in America
I Will Survive
Hastings and Main
Take Seven
No Matter What
Jesus Christ
Christmas (Baby Please COme Home)
Crazy like a Fox
Santa Baby
Magnetic North

Anything I'm missing people want to add?

I'm also going to take Rotary Ten, Walter's Theme, and King of the Road off of Dead Letter Office unless someone wants to keep them in.

All told we're looking at a bit north of 200 songs.

New Orleans Instrumental #2 is a gorgeous song and needs to be included.

despite it eliminating several good songs (draggin' the line, see no evil, love is all around, etc.) maybe we should keep any covers out.

I wouldn't worry too much about which songs get byes and which ones don't. If a shitty song gets a first round bye it's not going to make it past round two so who cares?

What if we pick the songs that were drafted first in that rem tournament a while ago as byes?

That's a good idea. First 53 songs taken are the byes.
