I prefer The Best Day...i havent really felt compelled to listen to new one a lot...although i know that will change of course.
I realized after I typed that I have never really listened to The Best Day as a whole. Also, there's probably an argument to be made about some of the SYR releases since Nurse being favorites of mine, or even that one kind of poppy Lee solo album. So...my statement was pretty stupid.
Speaking of The Best Day, "Grace Lake" is everything I like about Thurston's approach to jamming.

Great cast including Steve Shelley and Nels Cline. Jonathan Lethem involved in the song writing? He's one of my favorite creative NYC figures, but I bet his lines miss the mark. Still very excited.

As for why track X / Y / Z made it or didn't make it...well, I did the best with what I had.
Seeing as its Xmas would anyone be kind enough to repost this compilation?
Is such a beauty. Sounds awesome and its a departure from the classic SY sound. I love Thurston´s voice...
Ey, Lee is playing two dates at this really tiny place 2 blocks from my place...should i go?
So i went to see Lee Ranaldo playing in this very small place, 2 blocks from my house. He played alone with an electric guitar with a background full of weird images coming from a projector. It was very intimate.
After the gig i went and have a beer nearby and he came with two guys. Talked a little bit about SY (no chance about the band coming back together. They are selling all the gear that belonged to the four of them and Kim is pretty bitter with everyone) about politics, art and specially movies. He is coming in august for a few shows with his full band, not sure if Steve is there or not.

I actually saw something on CoS or AV Club or something about pedals being sold on ebay back in March. If it's all their equipment then that's kind of funny considering the whole NYC Ghosts stolen instruments debacle.

Crazy story, VG, but cool that he was willing to be so open with you about all the SY stuff.
I was surprised too because i didnt ask about the band playing again...i actually talked about some albums i was listening or songs like Sunday and i did tell him i saw the band two times here, once being in that last tour. Thats when he told me something like, yeah we are actually selling our gear. Kim is kinda bitter with everyone, never going to happen again.
I felt he is on a very different page and dont really care about it.

I've mentioned this before, but I hung with Thurston and Lee one night in 2010 or so, and their whole vibe was like "yawn, life sucks." It really turned me off. Kim was weird when I met her several years later, but at least her book gave some good insight as to why she is very guarded.
I didnt get that vibe at all with Lee. He just seemed very over SY. He was willing to talk about the music, but he is clearly a very busy solo artist at this point.
