Still listening to Dirty. I think I finally put my finger on why it's one of my least favorite SY albums. It's Thurston.
His songs on here are as poppy and slick as it gets for this band. Meanwhile, Kim found a really good groove with her songs. I think if Dirty was just Kim's songs and maybe wish fulfillment, genetic, and nic fit, SY's 90's discography would have had something that complimented Washing Machine's haze and grime. Instead, we get Thurston concentrating haaard on playing frontman for a band who was never going to make it earlier than 10pm on MTV but who signed a contract promising a load of "maybes".

I always forget about that one. I like the sound on it but my only big gripe with it has no Lee songs and no clear centerpiece or long jams. It's missing a big part of what I love about SY.

I feel you on the Lee songs, but the shorter track lengths work to its benefit. Plus you get a few great jams, in the epic freak out in Androgynous Mind, the first half of Bone, and the drum machine destruction in Tokyo Eye. And every song is a keeper.
I was reading your Dirty thoughts ( ey cool title for a Moore book!) and i dont really listen the album in the same way. It might have to do with that one being my first SY album maybe? and watching the 100% video, then diving into them playing with Ian, the booklet, specially what the band was doing in that era...i just love it.
I agree that musically its not up there with their best work, but i would still put it in a top 10 for sure.

i have severely underrated Total Trash for like 20 years now. I used to just wait for the single-chord bridge to arrive, but today it finally hit me that the entire thing is a gem.

Blew my mind when I realized "stupid mop" might have been a SY reference on Vitalogy.
