This revisionist history-type stuff. Brendan O'Brien's "raw" remix of "Ten." Steve Albini's "new and improved 2013 mix" of "In Utero." It just feels like a pointless exercise to me. I'm good with the originals.

Yea but this isn't a total revisionist thing. Did you listen? I agree with the above thing but also providing the fans with an alternative mix isn't really revising history....that can't be done. Its not a thing. Only Marty McFly can do that.

Like I said - If you're not a CD nerd and like to listen to music on vinyl but are scared of purchasing this album now...dont be. Its really not that different.

I liked the new mix. Im not a big fan of the album so it wasnt a big thing for me, perhaps thats why i dont really care about it.
I prefer other Wait´s albums but it was still a good listen.

I don't mean to be puritanical about it, if people are enjoying it then that's all that matters, but this doesn't strike me as an "alternative mix for fans," like some fun but ultimately extraneous Easter egg on a reissue; it seems like this is just the version of the album that's going to be available now, and that's disappointing to me. "Real Gone" occupies a very specific niche in Waits's catalog, and solicited a very specific reaction from people when it was released, and I can't help but feel like any remix is going to work to diminish those things to an extent. But no, I haven't listened -- can it be streamed somewhere for free?

Its on Spotify.

I understand your feeling about it. I guess i dont feel the same because its not one of my favorites.

its on spotify. Both versions. its really not a massive difference. Before you comment, go listen, then ill gladly listen to your well informed response.

That isn't meant to be condescending because i truly do value your opinion. However, i really believe that when you listen to that song, and the entire album, you'll see that this isn't a really a major departure or any re-writing of anything.

I don't have Spotify -- I'll keep an eye out on YouTube, I'm sure it will find its way there eventually...

also tom waits will probably be the next mega tournament

Re: Tom Waits

You can probably listen to it on spotify for free?

Re: Tom Waits

The horns are the thing I dislike the least about the Hoist remix.

Top of the Hill shows a bit more of its funk now. The vocals being pushed forward hurts a lot of songs, though...especially Sins, which sounds less like a group of people sitting and playing for each other and sacrifices all its glorious hypnosis.

Wow Shake It is just ruined.

I feel like too much of the experiment and personality was revoked here. It's like cleaning up Tonight's the Night, or the Basement Tapes...trading mystique for fidelity, magic for fact. No trade backs.

I forgot how good Day After Tomorrow is.

Hoist That Rag was already perfect. Why F with it??

For fun? We still have the perfect version. It didn't die.

When will people learn that music isn't supposed to be fun?

Also you can still buy the original Real Gone on his website.

These weren't that out of print where they were hard to come by. I did just re-buy Mule Variations last month. Real Gone, Blood MOney, and MV are still available for sale on his website. The originals.

I stand by the remixed version being terrible. I'm not mad about this release, I just have no use for it.

Really guys? I thought it was cool....ill listen to the original again.

Re: Tom Waits

giving the new mix a listen. I think I prefer this version of Top of the Hill, but it's been a while since I heard Real Gone, an album I like a lot but probably not as much as others around here.

Re: Tom Waits

Tue November 28, 2017 1:50 pm

also it's been way too long since I've spent any extended length of time with Mr. Waits

Re: Tom Waits

Hoist that Rag definitely has a different feel. Prefer the original to this more playful version.
