Well, Real Gone sounds completely different in this remaster.

Putting horns over the guitar solo in Hoist that Rag is pretty egregious. No interest in picking this up.

It makes sense for when Ribot goes back to playing the rhythm part, you know, how jazz players hand each other the lead, but having the trumpet draw attention away from Ribot's soloing is a weird choice. It creates a lot of dissonance and not in a very interesting way. I do like how it sounds near the end.

It just comes across as more noise that is unnecessary. Though, its nice to have a different version and interpretation of the song. There is still plenty of Ribot goodness throughout.

Yeah. On second listen, it's not really dissonant, just overly busy

Dead and Lovely sounds amazing. The secondary acoustic guitar in the left channel has been boosted and its beautiful.

Same. I'm just not a fan of this sort of thing at all.

What "sort of thing" ?

It really doesnt change much of the song at all.

Also, overall, it sounds great. The entire record. This is how you re-mix and master a record. If you dont have the vinyl, and you want it, dont hold back because of some changes to hoist that rag.

its great.

This revisionist history-type stuff. Brendan O'Brien's "raw" remix of "Ten." Steve Albini's "new and improved 2013 mix" of "In Utero." It just feels like a pointless exercise to me. I'm good with the originals.
