That is a very memorable line. Probably the one lyric I come back to over and over again.

Let it Ride transfixes me.

There's at least 5 songs on that record that are just stunning, this being one of them.

every single second of that album is perfect

Tossed the album on at work after not listening for a while, yep it's still pretty damn solid.

Cold Roses is the best record since...some Iron Maiden album in the 80's or something.

I agree. Really. Best album last 10-15 years.

I definitely don't agree there, but it has over half a dozen amazing songs, and most the rest are solid to quality.

Ryan's work with the Cardinals never did much for me. My favorites are "Heartbreaker," "Love is Hell," and "29."

Cold Roses is great. Heartbreaker is better.

I need to listen to Cold Roses again. It's been a while.

There was never really 'Ryan's work with the Cardinals' anyway. Kind of like a Billy Corgan and the Pumpkins thing, you know what I mean?

I'm not sure what you're saying here. Are you saying the band doesn't actually play on the records?

Anyway, none of Ryan Adams's stuff means all that much to me. I lost track of him after the 2005 trilogy and don't really revisit any of his records all that often. I like four or five songs on "Cold Roses" ("Magnolia Mountain" being one) but I think the notion that it's some kind of canonical record is completely cracked. At best, it's a solid career album from a highly prolific, largely derivative artist. Best album of the last 15 years? Nowhere near innovative enough for that.

That 'best album' call is total crazy talk.

Not a huge Ryan Adams fan, but I really enjoy his attempt at a metal album, Orion.

Everything you ever touched is undisturbed and hangs out
Like crime scene evidence undisturbed in dust
I don't dare touch anything because it's evidence of us
And it means everything
Well sort of

An album doesn't have to reach a certain level of innovation to be the best amongst its set of peers in any period of time. Exile on Main Street, in my opinion, beats every record over 15 years on either side of its release. And it's in no way innovative.

The 'band' has had a lot of turnover through the years and plays exactly what the guy who writes every single song himself wants them to play. They do play on Ryan's album, though.

I'm rather impressed that we're two pages in and no one has ranked the albums yet.

I was right into this guy early to mid 2000's. I should really revisit, I've only had a cursory listen to those last couple of Cardinals albums.

1 - Heartbreaker
2 - Cold Roses
3 - Love Is Hell
4 - Gold
5 - Jacksonville City Nights
6 - 29
7 - Easy Tiger
8 - Ashes & Fire
9 - Demolition
10 - Rock N Roll
11 - III/IV
12 - Cardinology

Because of this thread, I'm going to revisit Cold Roses today. It's one of my favorites, but I haven't given it a listen in some time.
