About ten days ago I played Cold Roses for the first time in years. I thought of the Celebration Rock podcast idea of Fantasy A&R and how you could make it a 10-12 song single disc release. I thought it would make a great discussion point here and I was in the process of this edit when the news broke.

sigh

The only RA album I ever liked was Heartbreaker.

Isbell is a way better singer/songwriter.

I think been done. But yah, if you shortened it to 10-12 you really would have album of the decade. Would be really hard to do though.

Isbell is boring. Ryan being this unhinged weirdo helped make the music feel spontaneous and on the edge in a way that Isbells never did for me.

Yeah it would be difficult. What do you keep as the closer? How Do You Keep Love Alive? or Friends? I think I would have to go with Friends.

kinda fair but isbell has had his own shit...recovered drug/booze addict. i don't know if any of his future music will be great but his daughter is a great muse i think. anyway, nice to see an artist appear to have his shit together and still put out good music. i think nashville was good and the previous 2 were amazing and he was sober.

I'm going to really need to think about this one. Mainly for sequencing purposes.

That's the problem. I didn't go back to it after the news broke. It's a bit all over the place but so is the released album.

None of RA's other albums had the vulnerable wistfulness of Heartbreaker and that's something that Isbell has really mastered and I'm a total sucker for.

Yeah I have Nashville and have spun it a handful of times. It's pretty good.

I'm a sucker for Meadowlake Street but I don't know where I would put it.
