He had some good tunes with DBT but his solo stuff is musically pretty boring and the lyrics are the sort of pretentious southern man stuff that I can't identify with.

Isn't there a Ryan Adams diss track on Nashville Sound?

“Chaos and Clothes” is about Ryan, yeah. But I wouldn’t call it a diss track (though Ryan did apparently take offense to it). I don’t think it’s a mean-spirited song at all.

I’ve been a fan of Isbell’s since he was in DBT. He’s a tremendous songwriter. I love all of his last three albums, but Southeastern is his best.
