A fun enough, not done to death idea for a list. I'm racking my brain to come up with a personal one. I'll post it later if I think of enough good stuff. What are some of your favorites?
21. I Remember You - Skid Row 20. The Trapeze Swinger - Iron & Wine 19. Summer of '69 - Bryan Adams 18. Names - Cat Power 17. Brass Buttons - Graham Parsons 16. Miner at the Dial-A-View - Grandaddy 15. Stare at the Sun - Eleanor Friedberger 14. My Slumbering Heart - Rilo Kiley 13. King of Carrot Flowers, Pt 1 - Neutral Milk Hotel 12. We're Going to Be Friends - The White Stripes 11. Village Green Preservation Society - The Kinks 10. Brown Eyed Girl - Van Morrison 9. 1979 - The Smashing Pumpkins 8. A Case of You - Joni Mitchell 7. Tuesday's Gone - Lynyrd Skynyrd 6. The Boys of Summer - Don Henley 5. Things Done Changed - Notorious B.I.G. 4. Caroline, No - The Beach Boys 3. (Sittin' On) The Dock of the Bay - Otis Redding 2. "Heroes" - David Bowie 1. Yesterday - The Beatles
If so, I'm sure. It doesn't belong. A song in the present tense probably shouldn't be considered a nostalgic song. I mean, to paraphrase the master Carlin, how can you be nostalgic about a concept like right now?
I think My Slumbering Heart & 1979 would be the only ones that would make my personal list (though I also kinda think both bands might have better nostalgic songs that are just escaping my memory at the moment). Possibly "Heroes" or Boys of Summer as well.

Glory Days by Springsteen could make this list.
Also, not sure about the inclusion of 12.
Do you mean, #12 on the list?

heh I think you're overthinking it.
I'm not sure how context is overthinking, but okay fine.
I just realized In My Life isn't on this list, and now I'm not just shocked at its omission, but shocked that it wasn't #1.
(Not that I think it should be, but I'm shocked that it isn't)
Especially since the author(s) went as far as Yesterday. You think they'd be able to see it through to a more logical conclusion. But maybe I'm overthinking it.
Here are some hastily thrown together personal choices. I'm sure a lot of this will seem debatable as to how much they're actually about nostalgia, but it's more for the sake of discussion than anything else...
Disco 2000 - Pulp Rockin' Chair - Oasis I Wish - Stevie Wonder Hot Fun in the Summertime - Sly & the Family Stone 1996 - The Wombats All My Friends - LCD Soundsystem Cherry Bomb - John Mellencamp Kids - MGMT Rewind the Film - Manic Street Preachers As Tears Go By - The Rolling Stones We All Go Back to Where We Belong - R.E.M. Sliver - Nirvana Bobby Jean - Bruce Springsteen This Used to Be My Playground - Madonna My Doorbell - The White Stripes Coffee & Cigarettes - Jimmy Eat World Summer of '89 - Butch Walker & the Black Widows Someday - The Strokes Back in the Day - Ahmad Stay Free - The Clash
And from the original list I'd include My Slumbering Heart & 1979.

Are those in their proper tenses? This is very important.
