Also I’m fuzzy on the order of releases and when the transition from punk to the more folk/pop stuff happened, and how that’s regarded by the fanbase? I do know Albini hated the shift
Replacements were punk with sorry ma and stink. Hootenany started to see a minor shift with better crafted songs but completely ramshackle punk ethos, Let it Be thorugh Pleased to Meet Me always had punk elements but Westerberg was crafting incredible songs with rock/folk elements. Don't Tell a Soul was kind of the beginning of the Folkier Side.
Paul Westerberg is my favorite song writer. Oh man i love him.
