I just ordered the Icky Blossoms LP. I can't stop listening to this song:

Love the thread title here.

I got MMJ's "Circuital" in preparation for the show last night. What's the deal with 12''s that play at 45rpm? Is it an effort to make the recordings higher quality or something?

maybe its a convenience thing.

I hit a few independent stores in Bloomington, IL before seeing Murder By Death last Saturday. I picked up:

I was able to get this cheap recently because the cover was damaged. I've had buyer's remorse since then; I'm afraid it's going to get damaged taking it out or putting it in the sleeve.

So it's become an annual thing where my father-in-law gives me a few of his doubles for Christmas... He's got thousands of records of all genres and tons of doubles. This year I got:

Ramones - end of th century
Elton John - goodbye yellow brick road
Simon and Garfunkel - bridge over troubled water
Styx - crystal ball
The doobie brothers - the captain and me
Genesis - duke

I'm not familiar with any of these, but I'm looking forward to going through them over the next little while..

Which record stores, v_t_t? North Street Records? Waiting Room Records? I usually hit both shops a few times per year. Bloomington-Normal doesn't have much but it does have a really nice little downtown area, right there off the campus.

Waiting Room and Reverberataion. Not amazing by any stretch but fun to visit. Basically on par with Ragged Records in Davenport, IA which I would consider my local shop. A friend of mine in Springfield says there is a great location down there.

Any shops in my general area you think I should put on my list?

I like downtown and the Castle Theater is a cool place to see a show, I wish more bands would play there. There is a bar downtown called Mulligans that has the best long island iced teas I've ever had. Or at least this is what I told myself in my early 20's.

Recycled Records in Springfield is a good shop--I worked in Springfield for a few weeks and every day on my lunch break I'd walk there and poke around, they got new stuff in all the time. It's downtown mixed in among all the government buildings--it looks like a pawn shop from the outside, but it's almost all music.

I'm not as familiar with the Quad Cities area but if you have any recommendations I'll definitely tuck them in the back of my mind. I'm always looking for a good record store.

Ragged Records is really the only spot in my area around the Quad Cities. Nothing too special though. They have an in with the Daytrotter guys though and get those sessions. Their downfall is their selection of used, which leaves something to be desired. Lots of volume but you have to spend a lot of time sifting through it to find the good stuff.

Picked up second hand copies of Pink Floyd's wish you were here, Janis Joplin's pearl, and U2's Joshua Tree.
