I picked up the new Lana Del Rey and the new Valerie June records (my top two favs of the year so far). And my wife picked up Buck Clayton's Passport to Paradise.

I'm not familiar with Clayton but he's from Parsons Kansas, the record was only $5, and it's in great condition. My wife and I both like Trumpet jazz, so she thought we'd give it a try.

Honestly, watching my wife pick out the record, get excited and show it to me, and buy it was the best and most rewarding part of the trip. Even if the record sucks, I'm already really fond of it.

It's the first record store I've been inside in almost two years! I only had about 30 mins to spare but it was glorious. I could have stayed all day.

Had a 30 minute shopping slot at a record store yesterday and it went by in the blink of an eye. I loved every fleeting second.

My local record store has been open since summer with sanitizer, masks, and gloves at the door. I never stopped going.

At this point in the game, I think gloves are unnecessary, but hey, people are gross. I'll keep using them to dig through records.

I feel you, man.

I've pre-ordered both the new STV and TMBG records. And I was worried that was too much to spend. My wife took me to that record store in PA last week and I spent way too much money. But it's really not my fault! She kept saying "it's basically your birthday, get it!"

Unless I find some really killer deals, I think I'm probably done with the vinyl purchases for another year or so.

I've made a concerted effort to spend a bit more getting from independent dealers over Amazon during COVID. I'm lucky enough to be able to do that for now. But I've also been weak and bought stuff on Amazon.

I don't really judge people for buying on Amazon. God knows I've spent my share of coin there. But I do like that I personally have purchased from them in over two years. Everything I get now is directly from the artist or from a local record store. Feels good. Especially since I'm not buying something every week or whatever.

Ive been trying harder to not buy off amazon lately.

Ever since becoming a member/cataloging my stuff on Discogs it seems more appropriate to be getting releases off vendors there which can often times be local record stores.

Also trying to get straight from bands.

Still not into the idea of going into my record store yet...

I've friended every record store I've been to on discogs (if they sell via discogs). When I look at the stuff they're selling it tells me if they are selling anything on my wishlist.

I often find it overwhelming and confusing, but if I absolutely MUST have the best possible vinyl recording, I come here and make Simple Torture find that for me in discogs.

I buy plenty of records from Amazon and feel zero remorse. I probably go 1/3 preorders direct from artist/Bandcamp, 1/3 local, 1/3 Amazon.

I use Discogs all the time, but rarely purchase from there. Seems every album I want is only available from people who ship from Europe, and shipping is insane. Their wantlist notification system could use a MAJOR overall. It’s practically useless sometimes.

I’ve sold a few things on there though, which has generally been a good experience so far.

Be wary of buying though. Not everyone on there is a independent seller or store. Lots of wholesellers on there that are owned by major companies trying to undercut the sales price and taking business from honest independent stores.

At the same time, there’s also a lot of people selling things for offensive prices, so fuck them.
