The board's server will undergo upgrade maintenance tonight, Nov 5, 2014, beginning approximately around 10 PM ET. Prepare for some possible down time during this process.
I bought a Son Little record yesterday. It was okay.
Which one?
New Magic
Is that the only one you have?
Yeah that's it. Are the other releases better?
I have no idea. I've never heard of this artist.
It was dirt cheap at my record store and just felt like trying something random. I thought I remembered he did something with Leon Bridges, who I like, so I gave him whirl. I wish records were cheaper so I could just buy randos all the time.

Being in chicago I imagine there are a million record stores with a large inventory of used records that would be good for this?

I don't buy used super often. They too frequently sound like shit despite what the jacket is labeled.

I've never been a vinyl head, so I don't really know what I'm talking about. It strikes me as odd though, because active monitors are generally frowned upon in the studio world. I just assumed that all your Marantz boners would deflate for active speakers because they're not pure enough or something.
just saw this from trag, too bad he'll never see my response
but i always go with passive speakers. not a fan of the active.
i've also done some research on the U-Turns not playing well with active speakers (low hums and static). anyone had that issue?

I haven't listened to anything on vinyl for years now. I'd need to at least replace my cartridge, but if I were to do that I'd finally upgrade the turntable. The thing is, running my FIIO X5 through my stereo sounds fantastic, and any benefit from that to vinyl is minor and not worth all the hassle.
If I decide to pull the trigger I'd obviously post what I have hear first and let you guys take anything you want off my hands.

totally get that. fully admit, vinyl (and all it entails) can be a big PITA if you're not fully immersing yourself in it. and if you have a good setup for digital music, why not?
