tbh, i don't buy off discogs too much. it's more of a last resort thing. it's more fun to find things in a store. but some things you just know you'll never find, so then i go to discogs. it says i have 15 purchases since 2015. the bulk of my purchases happened during the time that i didn't have access to local record stores.

Yeah, that's sort of how I expect to use it, too.

i mostly use it as a price comparison tool when i'm shopping in-store. which is probably a jackass thing to do to the store, but there have been times that i've found stores overpricing by an offensive amount. not that i'll buy that record off discogs, but i certainly won't buy it from that store. generally though, bc of discogs, i feel like used prices are so homogenized now that it's harder to find deals.

TL;DR: It drives up prices.

Discogs is good if you want a particular pressing from a particular country, priced accordingly.

Most sellers outside of Discogs don't have a clue about that shit.

I went down memory lane today in my Discogs purchase history and was amazed at some of the deals I got back in the day (meaning like 7-8 years ago). I picked up numerous LPs new for $5-$10 (and like $3.50 shipping and no tax) that now sell for $40+. Then, maybe an hour after that, I got a notification that the RSDBF order I placed through Discogs were cancelled because the items were unavailable. Lol. Luckily, some other sellers had copies available, and I actually got them for less than the order I placed on Saturday--saved like $10 because this seller was unclear of what they had in stock!

Man, no kidding. I still have a few original price stickers on some of mine, mostly bc Whatever glue that person used was apparently cement. Have an amazing original copy of Combat Rock with a $6 sticker that I got back in college, probably around 2003. Still have the original sticker on my first pressing of No Code (on the cellophane) that says $12.99. 90s vinyl prices huh?

My brother's copy of Oxygene that I spun the other day has its original $6.99 sticker on it.

I let my VMP membership lapse a while back and haven't missed it terribly, but their hints for Jan-March have me thinking about signing up again. Rap from '96, and indie rock from '97 and '99 are pretty compelling.

In the case of VMP, they get exclusive represses, like AAA versions of some records. They also do a lot of exclusive BS -- different vinyl colors, or "comes with a print insert!", dumb shit like that. But some of their stuff, like my AAA Booker T Christmas album, can't be found anywhere else.

Had an LP arrive at my doorstep today for the first time ever. Chastity Belt - Chastity Belt is now in the collection.

LOL. No idea why but a 2nd copy of this same album just arrived on my doorstep.

Checked and I didn't pay for it twice.

I'll get in touch with Milk! Records and let them know I think...

Been sitting on my desk but haven't gotten to to any audio or video of it yet, really hoping the mix is pretty good.

I thought the digital version sounded good, and I'm planning to turn this one up real loud.

I love how it 100% looks like a bootleg cover.
