Probably not the most efficient, but now that I've friended stores I know, I can go through them like this:
Takes a few minutes, and I don't always find the stuff I want, but it avoids most of the problems bodysnatcher mentioned.
But you're right about the notifications. I have 24 items on my wantlist. Why do I get two notifications a day about 30-40 new items from my wantlist hitting the market? It's garbage.

I never use the email feature, it's useless. I have a link saved that brings me to my want list in the store, US dollars only, new in last 24 hours, and I visit it a few times per day when I'm in a shopping mood.

Merge Records has a 30% off page that they update every two weeks or so with new titles from their back catalog, including limited edition colored vinyl. Worth checking out!

I ordered a copy of The Decemberists most recent live album (it's basically Hazards of Love live) from Discogs and expected the black vinyl version--pleasantly surprised that it was the limited bone-white that sells for twice the price that came instead! Hazzuh!

posted this in the Daft Punk thread already, but a limited repress of Random Access Memories has hit the shelves, and is selling out quickly. Now's the time to grab one if you've been waiting.
