Brian Eno - Before and After Science

MFer has so many albums! Loving this one after a few spins.

Percy Jones (from Brand X, Phil Collins' other band), has to be the most underrated fretless bass player of all time. His fretless work on this Eno album is actually incredible. We always hear about Jaco Pastorius, Tony Levin and Gary Willis, but not nearly enough about Percy. It's a real shame.

No shit? How popular an opinion is that among Eno fans? I just picked this one after the algorithm threw me a Percy Jones interview where they discuss how Eno operated as a bandleader etc.

Oh no idea, I’m not a huge Eno head or anything. By This River is one of the most gut wrenching songs I’ve ever heard, so I checked out the album. Love the whole thing front to back. Covers so much ground but feels cohesive, very intelligent but never takes itself too seriously. Just a great art-pop record all around.

I've only heard this one, Ambient 1, My Life in the Bush of Ghosts and Everything that Happens...

There are just so many, though. Maybe I'll go back and listen in chronological order.

Yeah I’ve not heard all of them. Warm Jets is excellent too. The Ambient Earth album is my favorite in that series.

Listening to this right now, after reading today's WaPo article about them. Digging it. Processed but not too processed, hitting that sweet spot between some heavy production choices but still sounding like a live band.

I don't know that I listened to much hardcore before this album, at least any band i can recall. i think i enjoy it for sounding processed.

these guys are great though. glad you're checking 'em out.

yeah it's definitely not as robotic/quantized testosterone sounding as something like Converged or Killswitch Engage -- i hate that stuff. It sounds very human, but the production adds a moody element that almost wants me to put it in the no-wave category. It's like if Minor Threat made a record with Bauhaus. Cool shit.
