Today I heard 'Crystal Japan' for the first time, which Bowie apparently recorded for a gin advert in Japan. It sounds so eerily similar to Nine Inch Nails' 'A Warm Place', released some 14 years later. Trent would go on to claim, in an interview where Bowie was also present, that he wasn't aware he had basically stolen the melody until after the release of The Downward Spiral. Amazing.
