I've always preferred this version.

the record label jagjaguwar posted a playlist this past Friday, and it included a song by this artist, who goes by h hunt. i liked what i heard and wanted to hear more. instantly fell in love with the whole album, playing piano for dad. it came out in 2016, and seems to be available on vinyl only. also available to download free on the label's site, tasty morsels. this is the opening track.

This might be the best Gordon Lightfoot song

Cathy Smith was Gordon Lightfoot’s girlfriend for a time. An insight into her character may be gleaned by the fact he wrote ‘Sundown’ about her.

She then moved to LA where she dated a number of celebrities, most famously John Belushi. She was in the room when he OD’d, and is blamed for his death by hard core fans.

The post script is a Kinky Friedman anecdote. Kinky is a gay, Jewish, Texan, country and western singing cowboy who also writes detective stories featuring himself as the lead. He was walking down a New York street and noticed a woman being mugged across the road. He did what any self respecting gay, Texan, C&W singing, cowboy, author would do, chasing away the mugger and rescuing the damsel. Unfortunately he then realised the woman he’d just saved was Cathy Smith. His response was something like “F…, if I’d known it was you I wouldn’t have bothered.”
