I've been up and down on the guy for years. I liked Shellac in high school, particularly 1000 Hurts, and I have enjoyed albums he's produced. But I've also found myself shaking my head at some of his takes, and then other times thinking "this guy's alright." In many ways, he's a lot like Trag
there is a species of albini fan -- reactionary, conversant in philosophy, awed by transgression, thoroughly solipsistic -- that i fucking hate. maybe more than any other kind of art fan.
Appreciate the comparison guys. I know exactly what Malloy is talking about here though. Shellac puts on some of the best shows I've ever seen, attended by the biggest bunch of assholes I've ever met (the "punishers" Albini mentions in his tweet thread).
I am currently getting a kick out of a few RMers' desire to rip Albini down because he made fun of Pearl Jam once.

Probably the biggest personality cue I've taken from Albini (and Ralph Nader, to a certain extent) is to just talk earnestly and directly to things as I see them; and to be willing to be proven wrong; and when I'm wrong, to just kind of shrug and say "Welp, yeah I was wrong, on to the next one."
I remember I was in Miami when it happened. I was posting from the balcony of my apartment overlooking the beach. And I was having an argument with Adamdude.
Guys, I am not a moderator! I swear to God! Why does everyone think I'm a moderator?

If you are referring to me, make no mistake it isn't about him making fun of Pearl Jam. That seems like you are dumbing down me and the criticism. It is because his takes are more of "this type of art is bad and wrong and I don't know how anyone can like it but not like art made by my fringe friends that no one has heard of". Posting on social media to get attention to the fact that he doesn't like a popular band and is somehow cool because of it seems like nothing more than an attention grab. That and he wears black tshirts.

That’s a pretty subjective reading of what he said about PJ, but maybe you’re referring to something else he said?
At any rate, he has 14K Twitter followers who are already fans, so I don’t think his intent is to have any sort of meaningful impact on those who have an alternate view.
