It was a good night.

Reeder assured me that a studio take - with vocals - of Christi will eventually surface. I felt better after that.

He also agreed to listen to Bubblegum if I give Daydream Nation a good spin. I'll report back in the Sonic Youth thread. I expect something from Matt in the Lanegan thread.

Portland is a cool town, btw.

reeder lives in portland though, so it'd be tough to meet him in those places.

Fuck yeah. Both those records are awesome. Did you guys tell each other to listen to the Pixies?

I own 5 Pixies CDs, so I already have that covered! It was nice meeting you, man. Come back to Portland someday. Pearl Jam might not like playing here but a lot of other bands do.

By the way, on the subject of Soundgarden, I have no proof that a studio take of "Christi" with vocals exists. I do know, however, that they recorded it for Down on the Upside in some capacity. Since the 1995 European tour was a break from the studio, I can only guess that a version with vocals exists.

What I'd like to know is if they recorded anything else besides the 16 album tracks, the 2 b-sides ("Karaoke" and "Bleed Together") and "Christi".

Pretty sure that Matt said that Chris never laid down vocals for Christi.

Right that's what I thought I read too. There was an interview where Matt said Chris couldn't nail the vocals or something.

Really? That sucks. Well, if nothing else I'm sure there's a recording of them playing it in rehearsal or soundcheck somewhere. Barring that I'm sure there's a soundboard of Reading 1995 somewhere.

I have none of these but I know at least the last one exists somewhere. There's pro-video too that I'm sure we'll never see!

As long as a studio take of the music exists, I wouldn't mind if Chris went back and laid the vocals overtop now for the b-side release.

It has to come out. We were saying last night - it's just a frightening fucking song.

A meeting with Matt Reeder would be amazing, he is such a great poster. My favorite one i think. Nice.

And Im sure Kim said there is a version of Christi with vocals. Maybe in the grunge is dead book?

Maybe in rolling stone?? it was a long time ago.
